Filling time between Elite cocktail party and late seating

Cruise Arizona

Recommended Posts

On my last cruise I had trouble filling the time between the elite cocktail party and dinner. Don't really want to just drink and eat appetizers. Husband doesn't dance. Suggestions appreciated.

Hi On our latest cruise, there was quite often a show at 7.15pm, I don't usually enjoy the pre dinner shows, but on our Norwegian voyage it worked quite well.

Enjoy

We felt the same way and this time decided to do Select Dining at 7:45. We did the same thing on our last Princess cruise and the timing was really perfect for every activity in the evening and before. Early seating crowd was gone and we could enjoy a stroll around and look at the botique specials and relax before the onset of "more food"! After dinner, we went to the late show if it sounded good or to the casino if we felt lucky. We were then in bed by midnight without a full stomach.;)

Hi Suzanne:) not sure how long it has been since you sailed with

Celebrity but the Elite Lounge hours for evenings have changed to

5-7. You could go there and then go see the 7:00pm show and then

would only have about 30 minutes before the 8:30 dinner. You could

stroll around the shops or listen to music or do a bit of both;)

If you believe in exercise, you could exercise on your balcony, or proceed to the Solarium (or T-Pool for M class) for some vigorous pool walking, and other exercises.

Only a man could envision this ........

Sit down in the Ensemble Lounge and enjoy the music. They usually have a group playing in between seatings. Also in Michael's Club. You don't need to have a drink -- just ask for a glass of ice water.

Oh how I wish I could do this, or I could go to the elite lounge from 6-7, in my evening clothes, and go walk on the treadmill, in my long satin gown!!:D

Lois, I think the change in the Elite hours should help. When I cruised last Nov they had not change. I found my self just feeling bloated all the time. We'd have a drink or two there, then usually a glass or two at he cellar master, then a bottle with dinner. It spread out over about 6 hours, so it wasn't like I was getting totally plastered, but I just don't want to end up drinking that much.

We have never done select dining, is it possible to have the same table and same waiter every night if you set it up for 7:45 ever night? We have always enjoyed traditional dinning very much.

Suzanne, all you have to do once you have changed to select dining is go th the celebrity website and then go to reserve your dining time and it will come up with all the days you are on the ship and you can pick the time you want to eat every day. It is a long process but I think worth it when you end up getting what you want. We ask for a table for 2 but you can chose a larger group if you want. You can see once you are in the site.

Yes. You can make your reservations for any time and request the same table and same waiter.

You might also mention to the maitre d' that you have made reservations every night for 7:45 and that you'd like to get the same waitstaff, or else you might get pot luck (for the waiters, that is, not the dinner:rolleyes:).

Drinks finish at 7 so by the time you finish your glass it is 7:15 - go to the Martini bar for one more and then go to dinner around 7:45 - 8p with Select Dining. Works perfectly. Hic.;)

You have got to be kidding....after all that champagne.....

We went to the show immediately after the cocktail hour. There was usually about 30 minutes left befor dinner and we would go listen to music somewhere. On the Constellation , we usually went to see Perry Grant after the show and before dinner.

Hi, that is exactly what I was trying to say as well.:) If someone

goes to the show at 7:00 it will usually last about an hour. So you

leave the theater at 8 and have about 30 minutes to kill.:D

And that will NOT be doing laps or exercising on the balcony:eek:

Thank You.:)

Laps and exercise?:confused: The OP was talking about the time between Elite

Cocktails and dinner.....do you think the author of that book "Men are

from Mars" might be referring to this?...that was the title of the

book, right?

Lois, maybe I'll have to invest in a formal track suit like Sue Sylvester, that way I can job a few laps after my champagne in the elite lounge.

Seriously, I think the move of the elite cocktail hour will be just what we need. We can be dressed and ready at 6:00, enjoy a glass or two in the elite loung, then head for the show before dinner. Maybe we can start our bottle of dinner wine in the Cellar Master before heading into the MDR.

I think they still have the production shows after dinner??? on formal nights, so those nights might be harder to fill.

Hubby doesn't want to do the select, so I think we'll have to stick with the 8:45, which just means eating luch at 2:00.

BTW, we just booked our next cruise. It will be our 20th anniversary in 2013, and we are taking the Solstice from Sydney to Honolulu!!! Stops in French Polynesia. We have no other cruises scheduled right now as this is a pretty big one and we are saving all our airline miles and extra funds for the trip. Hope to make it a great one.

Hi Suzanne, sounds terrific:D and yes, shows are usually at 7 and 9,

with formal night having a later show. I hope you have a wonderful

Anniversary and a great cruise too:)

DW and I were on the Eclipse Baltic cruise in late July. After a few nights at the late 8:45 p.m. seating we decided that the late dining was just too late for us to eat a full meal as we were not getting out of the dining room until well after 10:00 p.m. We decided to try select Dining and arrived between 7:00-7:30 p.m. most nights (without a reservation). We usually were seated within 5 minutes at a table for 4 or 6 and met some very nice people this way.

Many people in Select Dining asked to be seated at a table for two and we noticed they also had very short wait times even without a reservation. It seemed Select Dining got busy around 7:45-8:15 p.m. so maybe there was a wait at that time.

We did not notice any difference in the service in Select Dining.

This worked quite well for us with the Elite cocktails from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
