Definitely days spent. I could go on 10 two days cruises in an inside cabin if I lived near a Florida port, and then become Platinum for around $2000 very quickley, which is just over what we have spent on one cruise on the Spirit - so it definitely seems fairer.

Denise :D

Denise: Which of those Florida ports routinely offer 2-nt sailings??

.

.

Not sure about Florida, but Norfolk offer 2-nighters (2x/yr) and the rates start at $300 pp for an inside cabin. Not a bargain by any means and is the reason we opt for the longer cruises.

To the OP: We don't care about the loyalty programs one way or the other. Now if they stopped offering the shareholder credit, that would be a big deal.

I proposed a hybrid system a few years ago --- something like:

1 credit for each night of the cruise TIMES a multiplier based on cabin type. Say 1.0x for insides, 1.25 for balconies, and 1.5 for suites - thus earning roughly 7, 9, or 11 credits respectively.

On Celebrity and Royal (perhaps others as well) one earns DOUBLE for a suite. I think that is stretching it just a bit -- even though it benefited us w/regard to Celebrity.

Tom I agree, but I would add something for frequent sailing guests, we do 3 to 4 CCL cruises each year that has to show some loyalty... LOL

Perhaps they'll throw in extra credits if you book with a particular credit card or book your next cruise while onboard... the possibilities are endless - as are the ways that such additional multipliers or add-ons could really screw up Carnival's accounting of your credits!!

Neither.........I perfer total dollars spent......

Which of course dumps all over people like me who only book inside cabins.

So in your opinion cruising should only be for the rich?

Might get rid of that Wal-Mart crowd I always hear people on CC talk about.

But you know this is the sort of attitude I have come to expect from CC people.

BTW I have 11 Carnival with three more booked. Ans all but two are inside cabins.

Not sure about the $$ spent and what type of cabin you book, we can book the same balcony cabin and I may pay $1000 and you maybe paid $1500 for the same cabin so in that case regardless of us having the same cabin type booked just because I found a better deal than yours I should get penalized? Just asking

I would like to see maybe some free internet time, or complimentary steakhouse dinner for two, one night free etc added to the Platinum perks :D

No different than a credit card rewards program... if we purchase the same product, but I got mine on sale, I would not be given the same amount of reward or points as you, because you spent more.;)

Anything is possible, but those would be quite expensive for Carnival to give to all the Platinum guests. I can see that sort of thing at the highest level though - now as to whether Carnival can see it as well as I is another matter entirely! ;)

Eight of our cruises have been 7 days or more with us staying in balconies, and two cruises were 3-4 days with us staying in Oceanview cabins.

That being said, I'd like to see a loyalty program based on days sailed.

I do have a question - when a PP said that the loyalty program should be based on dollars spent, did they mean dollars spent on the cabin, or on their cabin AND S&S card???

Just curious...

LOL..how do you figure you're penalized if you'rer smart enough (or, lucky enough) to pay 1/3 less for your cruise??

Just askin' ;)

Really, I'd happily take less 'points' and pay less for the cruise.

Points per dollar spent is the most fair, however, CCL isn't gonna do that, so I voted for days.

This idea seems the fairest to me too. Great idea, TOM-N-CHERYL!

WOW, you know everyone has a different position as to where they fall in the new rating system. I guess CCL will just draw some lines in the sand and say.... If you have this many sailing days you are rated at this level if not you are at the lower level. Then go forwarded, like it or not. Me I'll look where I fal in the new programl. We have 17 cruises in 6 years for 110 days and 3 more CCL booked. I may never get the top CCL level now. I'll still sail CCL and others..

I'm hoping that when and if they do switch to days-cruised they do the same sort of conversion the RCI did. They had a formula wherein each point from the old system was worth a certain amount of days in the new system. It wasn't an exact number, but it worked out to about 7 days for each 1 of the old points.

This put most people at about the same distance to their next step in the program as they were before the change. If CCL does this I will be okay with the switch to a days cruised system.

At the end of this month I will have 17 CCL cruises, so I'm 8 away from Milestone. If they do a straight changeover I will be at less than 100 days cruised, and decades away from the top tier.

Actually I think it should be the overall spending....not just on cabin selection........just like any other most major casinos, airlines etc.........

The survey I received had a four level breakdown consisting of the following:

Silver.....Days Cruised 1-24

Gold.......Days Cruised 25-74

Platinum..Days Cruised 75-224

Diamond..Days Cruised 225+

Under this scenario, the Platinum level would require more than 10 -7 day cruises and you would be stuck on that level for a VERY LONG TIME. You would have to go on 33 week long cruises to achieve top level. A fifth level in between platinum and diamond would be nice and attainable for more people.

As a current platinum member, I would be happy with a free 8 x 10 picture and how about a 2/1 card that is good at any bar on board. It would generate additional revenue for the cruise line and good will as well.

We prefer days, mostly because it seems unfair to give the same credit to a 3 day weekend cruise as they do to a 16 day cruise.

Makes no difference to us - we are milestone, with mostly long cruises but our milestone was obtained using pretty much all 7-12 days cruises so we are at 184 days - it does seems unfair that we cruise with milestone people who have received milestone through 3 and 4 day cruises so they have less than 100 days to our 184 days even though we have taken the same amount of cruises.

Changing to days at sea will be an advantage to people like us, but I can see the point of people who live near a port and jump on ships for the weekend, not wanting to lose anything. They say people will be

"grandfathered in" but I see them changing the "names of the levels" plus the perks, so it will be unrecognizable.

I do wonder if this would affect bookings of shorter cruises as we know many people who have purposely done b2b2b2b2b - 3 and 4 day cruises to quickly make platinum. Over the last few years this has been a popular method to get Platinum/milestone. They might have trouble filling the shorter cruises if the motivation for doing so is changed.

I just checked prices. Here on the west coast we have a two day cruise on the Inspiration for $319 Interior, a three day on the Inspiration for $359, a six day cruise on the Spirit for $479 Interior, a 7 day cruise on the Splendor for $379 Interior, and a 9 day cruise on the Spirit for $479 Interior. Out here for the price, the longer cruises are the way to go. The only thing that gets in my way is work.;)

If you are cruising out of FL for the most part the 7 days or longer are really the least expensive especially counting the per day price. My first cruise my only 4 dayer has been my most expensive. My 7 dayer has been my least expensive. I agree all of my cruises would be 7 or more days if work didn't get into the way. About the same pp price as a 5 day and two more days of FUN. Amount spent would have to be the most fair all the way around. And would make carnival more money because more people would actually book excursions through them.

I don't get how dollars equates to loyalty. I cruise whenever I can, whether it is a short cruise or a long cruise. Carnival needs to fill the short cruises, the inside cabins and the outside cabins as well as the suites. I just paid 150 a NIGHT for a cruise to nowhere......it is not about the dollars but the fact that I don't have the time to do a longer cruise right now, and I am LOYAL to Carnival, have not cruised another line. I had Platinum all mapped out for next year and now........well, I may look elsewhere.

With the program as it stands now, a ctn gets you no loyalty points....if they change it to points per day (or dollar spent) you would be credited with points.

Loyalty rewards for all other businesses are based on dollars spent. Although I don't think CCL will go that route, it is the most common way to reward people and it's not unfair at all.

It’s a rewards system, not an entitlement system. They should reward based on dollars spent.

Book a inside you get credit, book and suite you get more credit.. the same with beverages, pictures, excursions ect ect.

How is that dumping on others or trying the make cruises all for the rich?? I don’t think anyone is saying you don’t get credit it just about how you earn your points.

Do you get points on your credit cards based on how many times you use it ? or on how much you spend.

The cruise industry changed so much throughout the years, costs are way down . The program today with the amount of cruises is old and antiquated based on the time where they made money on bookings.

The current business model is today based on spending on the ship vs the cost of a booked room.

The perks are limited as is, priority embark and tendering is a nice perk most of the other stuff like laundry , trinkets and canapés ( who eat those things) well its nice but very antiquated .

Many on here want more perks and I agree to some degree however many on here are all for keeping prices Low ( im not one of them as I think the quality has suffered)

In my opinion there is now way the can increase perks with the model of amount of cruises
