mapleleaves Posted September 11, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 11, 2011 I recommend that you are at the airport by 9am for an 11:30 flight. The departures area is a mess, especially now with treviso airport closed. The easiest option is a cab. Around 35E for a 20 minute ride. If you can easily manage your luggage, the cheapest option is by bus. The buses leave from Piazzale Roma not the pier. The ATVO airport express is 5E for the 20 minute ride. There is a people mover (monorail) that runs between the pier and P Roma. It's 1 E for a 5 minute ride, but it requires some walking with your luggage. http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/arriving_in_venice_by_air.htm
KirkNC Posted September 11, 2011 #3 Share Posted September 11, 2011 With a 11:30 departure time, I would opt for the cab. Kirk
floridatravelersforlife Posted September 13, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 13, 2011 Is that 35 euros per person or for the cab? I have a party of four next spring.
srpilo Posted September 13, 2011 #5 Share Posted September 13, 2011 Is that 35 euros per person or for the cab? I have a party of four next spring. Entire taxi.... But with luggage a standard taxi might not work for a party of four. There's a cab stand in Piazzalle Roma Srpilo
PaulaJK Posted September 15, 2011 #6 Share Posted September 15, 2011 We just disembarked in Venice on 9/7. Following multiple recommendations on this and other boards, we had a confirmed reservaton with veniceairpoter to collect us at 9:30am. We disembarked and were outside the terminal at 9:05. There were many drivers w name plaques as well as many taxis. Since we had made the booking, we waited until 9:35am. Veniceairporter never showed. So...we would advise that you take a taxi. Two people & 4 bags came to 50 euros. [You are captive in Venice!] The ride was about 20 minutes. The check in area [Air France] was a major mess without a clear line. Check-in did not open until 2 hours before flight time. Obviously, the earlier you arrive, the closer you are to the head of the line. Good luck! MRSBITS Posted September 15, 2011 #7 Share Posted September 15, 2011 With a 11:30 departure time, I would opt for the cab. Kirk Upon disembarking our ship, our flight from VCE to CDG aboard Alitalia leaves at 3:10 p.m. What is the best way to utilize our time?

You don't have as much time as you might think, but if I was in your shoes, I'd enjoy a scenic ride down the Grand Canal by water bus, wander around for a few hours, then take the water bus back to P Roma. (The #1 or 2 route takes about 45 minutes each way). With a 3:10 flight, you should be at the airport by 12:40 so plan on leaving Piazzale Roma on the 12:20 ATVO express (or taxi). There's a Left Luggage at Piazzale Roma, then you just walk across the square to the Grand Canal to the vaporetto station.
