sunchaser1008 Posted September 19, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2011 As we are first time cruisers, with a cruise booked for the Mediterrean next June on the Riveria, I have been reading alot of the boards here on CC for advice/info, which has been amazing! I have seen alot of photos of the Marnia for which the Riveria will be the sister ship, but cannot find any of the bathrooms for the balcony suites. I even checked on YouTube, but they only show the OS or VS bathrooms (which we would love to be able to afford). I ask because alot of people have advised purchasing the over-the-door shoe rack for storage purposes on the "First Time Cruisers" board and have also been reading here on the Oceania forum complaints about how small the bathrooms are & how limited storage space is. Would very much appreciate any advice or pictures. Thanks in advance.
Rare LHT28 Posted September 19, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2011 Not a suite, but we were in a B4 on Marina here are some photos http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2616416130101934561UuCdod The bathroom itself is large but the shower is not The bathrooms on the R-ships are much smaller in the regular cabins I am sure the suites are much better I am sure others will post better photos but it gives you a start ;) Lyn

Here are a few from a Concierge class room on deck 9: There is a ton of storage under the sink and TWO big medicine cabinets, (one behind each of those side mirrors. RandB_Toronto Posted September 19, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 19, 2011 It appears from the photo that there is no shelf in the shower for shampoo, lotions etc. Is that really the case?
TERRIER1 Posted September 19, 2011 #5 Share Posted September 19, 2011 There is one shelf for shampoos, etc. The problem is there no second shelf for bar soap. When the bar soap falls through the stainless steel shelf it becomes a comical exercise to retieve the bar in the shower when the door is made of glass and does not give like a shower curtain. The bathroom is lovely but the showerstall tight.

As shown in the photos, just a small wire shelf that will hold small bottles like those provided and a bar of soap.
sunchaser1008 Posted September 19, 2011 Author #7 Share Posted September 19, 2011 Thank you so very much for the info & pictures. It appears that we will have enough space for our things both under the sink & in the medicine cabinets. Was not looking forward to buying/packing the OTC shoe rack :)

Actually, the mini shelf works fine, because the shampoo and the conditioner are in those mini bottles anyway. :p
RandB_Toronto Posted September 21, 2011 #10 Share Posted September 21, 2011 Actually, the mini shelf works fine, because the shampoo and the conditioner are in those mini bottles anyway. :p Actually we bring our own shampoo etc. because we happen to like what we use. We also use two different soaps. I can never be sure about others, no matter how fancy. However, since the airlines restrict size of liquids, we have to use pretty small containers! But I still suspect we will have trouble with the shelf size.

Do you only take carry-on?:confused: I would put MY soap in a travel soap container then put it on the shelf That way it will not slide out I have no problem with the shampoo on O sliding out but then again I just use what they provide Lyn

But we do put enough in our carry-ons to get us through a few nights if the checked bags get lost, so that normally includes all our toiletries. I don't anticipate trouble with things sliding out -- rather it looks like there simply isn't room for two soaps and shampoo.

I used the shelf for soap, shampoo, conditioner & face wash (small travel size) no problem The shelf is triangular so you do get a bit of space that is not really visible in the photos http://community.webshots.com/photo/fullsize/2601204450101934561UprZOI

JimandStan Posted September 26, 2011 #21 Share Posted September 26, 2011 Is there a curtain or door on the bathtub? The ship was built without either one, but there has been some loose talk about retrofitting the tubs with shower curtains, shower heads and hand sprays, after there was some dissatisfaction with the size of the existing showers. Bob Binder actually showed Don Horner and I sample fixtures that he was hoping to use for the update when we were aboard in March. If the tubs are going to be adapted at all, my guess is that they will do it when the Marina is in dry dock in order to minimize the inconvenience and mess. Look for an announcement on that front, but until then the tubs are strictly for soaking.......or storing luggage
TKS Posted September 26, 2011 #22 Share Posted September 26, 2011 Is there a curtain or door on the bathtub? Not on Marina, although I know there has been discussion of changing that on Riviera and adding a tethered shower head on a hose.

They might There was room for our 26" hard side cases under the bed on Marina & they went in the closet on the R-ships So unless you have huge amounts of luggage they should fit in the cabin someplace ;) PH cabins of course have a huge closet
