awkward invitations??......

Okay, admittedly a bit off topic from the OP's experience, but still an awfully awkward proposition:

Late Nov of 2003-- nice 7-nt cruise on Carnival Triumph, and my first Western Caribbean itinerary, which includes Ocho Rios. Pierside, a group of ten or twelve of us passengers arrange to save on cab fare to Dunn's River Falls by going in on a nice minibus. After we've all enjoyed the scenic falls, there's a bit of a wait before our driver returns to collect us. I'm sitting in a little circular covered seating pavilion in the parking lot, where three employees of the Falls attraction-- a young male parking lot attendant and two female co-workers-- are also taking a break. After a little innocuous So-where-are-you-from type of chat, the guy asks me if I'd like to get myself a woman! I decline, as casually as if he's offered me a drink or a cigarette...but the guy doesn't want to take no for an answer! "Oh, come on, mon!-- you don't want to leave our island widout tryin' some fine Jamaican p***y, do ya mon?"-- and with this, he gestures toward his two pretty co-workers, as if THEY were his "wares" for sale! (They must have heard this pitch before-- they just sigh and roll their eyes!)

"Uh, no, I think I'm good!"-- but what I really felt like doing was yelling, "What the hell is wrong with you?! With that mouth, you KISS your MOTHER??!!" (To say nothing of involving his co-workers in the proposition, when clearly they wanted nothing to do with him!) I excused myself at that point-- "Oh, I think I hear our bus coming up the drive..."-- and went to wait with the others in our group.

A few minutes later, mercifully, our driver returned to pick up our group, and after he brought us to the Taj Mahal shopping center right next to the pier so we could browse for a few souvenirs, I hung back in the bus for a couple of extra minutes to relate my exchange with that young parking-lot attendant, and to ask him, in effect, "What the hell was THAT all about?"

He looked embarrassed that a tourist like me had had this unpleasant side of island life shoved in my face, but went on to explain that there was a "house of ill repute" right across the road from the Taj Mahal shopping area, and that this young man who'd accosted me-- probably for no other reason than that I had no wife or girlfriend in tow at the moment-- was likely earning a little extra dough up at Dunn's River Falls by moonlighting as a tout for this other, um, establishment in his spare time.

It didn't ruin my day, or for that matter put me off of a repeat visit to Ocho Rios about 18 months later-- but there certainly are some weird people in the world!

Never had this happen to us but we were on a Disney cruise and the couple that we were sitting at dinner with said they were propositioned. They were in the whirlpool and the lady pulled her top down and aske how they liked her new "purchase" (my words). Then the couple was asked if they wanted to get together that night. They declined and avoided that couple the rest of the cruise.

We are full time RVers and have never had that happen to us either. Thank goodness!

On a DISNEY CRUISE???????????????????????????????
