what do you do on really bad weather sea days?

Just wondering.

 

I have never had real bad weather but who knows I could next week on my cruise to nowhere. I'm guessing the casino would be packed and there will be lots of indoor partying

We've been lucky in that the only crappy days we've had were our last sea days and we used it for packing. Anything short of rain and I'm still out there, trying to get a tan, lol. Last time we had some SERIOUS wind, and I think we got more windburned than anything, lol. I'm not opposed to some downtime relaxing in the cabin or people watching on the promenade with a nice cup of mocha. :)

When the weather is that bad, and I assume you mean more than just normal rain, a lot of people stay in their cabins. Casino is no busier than usual on a sea day and in fact may be less crowded, as people tend to avoid the noise, lights and motion.

 

There is not a lot of partying either.

the thing about cruising is, when at sea, you have the luxury of sailing around storms and rain "MOST" times in the daytime. They seem to sail right through them at night.

 

so, the odds are in your favor.

On our last cruise, we missed Grand Cayman due to Hurricane Tomas. It was kind of a yucky day so the CD made several announcements of added activities that were not posted in the FunTimes. They added things like Corn-Hole in the Atrium lobby area, more trivia games, etc...... We ended up finding a nice out-of-the way seating area and just relaxed and read. This would also be a good opportunity to find a nice area on the ship and play cards or a travel game. (There was a really good thread on here a few months back about favorite cruise- travel- games and a poster on there mentioned the game LCR. I went out and bought one, and it is so fun and adictive. I will need to remember to pack this.) :)

We had an extremely rough day going through the Bay of Biscaye. It was so bad that being in our cabin (which was forward) was impossible. It was quite the challenge to take a shower that morning. LOL! Getting dressed had it own challenges and required special timing. I actually fell head first into the wardrobe at one point, but caught myself before I hit my head. LOL! Anyway, I felt well and truly miserable in the cabin - even watching TV would have been impossible and uncomfortable, so we went midship and I spent the day reading. It was hard to walk around even inside the ship and the Captain had closed all outside decks. I was not 100% comfortable for the whole day, but I knew by the next day we'd be in the Med and the problem would be over. By lunch time my transderm scop had become effective and I was feeling better, so I was able to eat. After more time spent midship, we went to dinner and the comedy show that night and the commedian did a great job of taking my mind off of things. We were rolling all over the bed that night - and not by choice, LOL! But the next morning, all was well. I liken that day to being forced to spend an entire day on a roller coaster. I like riding roller coasters, but not that much! LOL!

If it's just rainy cold weather, I will still have a nice day staying indoors - go to the gym or take a class, or read a book, maybe check out the library or just explore the ship some more. If it's really rough though that does make it hard, probably just load up on seasickness meds & lay low. The gym or spa is always high up & in the front of the ship on every cruise I can recall - so if it's even slightly rough you will feel it the worst there. In the times I've been on board when the seas were so high everything was locked down tight - it's no fun being out & about.

Last month sailed thru some rather terrible weather on the way back from Bermuda.

 

Weather so bad they closed off lido deck.

 

They had lots of trivia games and they did a kitchen tour to occupy us.

Well, traveling Norway in December we did experience a lot of real bad weather :D Rain, storm, sleet, snow... we mostly spent the day outside, watching the scenery (there is no bad weather, just bad clothing) or in the panorama lounge when it got too bad.

 

Unfortunately I guess there won't be too much "scenery" on a typical sea day... so I'd go with reading, watching TV, relaxing and people watching.

I'm in total agreement - only thing to do is try to get through the sea sickness & do your best to keep the antiemetics in your system. No way could I even think about drinking alcohol when already queasy.

Here are my top picks:

 

1. Snuggle with my hunny.

2. Explore the ship/Casino.

3. Try to hold your "insides" IN!...This was my choice by default on our last cruise.:eek:
