Dover to Heathrow Transportation

Has anyone used Silver Fleet or some other transport company for Dover to Heathrow? They advertise their shuttle costs approx. $90 one way. Oceania's transfer is $288/per person Dover to Heathrow.

 

We'll be disembarking Oceania a.m. July 24 for Heathrow. As our Delta flight leaves at 9:40 a.m., we decided to spend the night of the 24th at Comfort Hotel Heathrow (actually in Hayes, a short bus drive away). Lots of mixed reviews of the hotel, but we don't feel like spending $$$$ for one night. In any event, from the airport, we'll take the Hoppa bus which costs approx $12 round trip to/from hotel.

 

Alternatively, would love to hire a driver/guide to see the sights, if any, between Dover and the hotel. We already visited Dover Castle in the '90s (well worth a visit). Any suggestions?

Don't know what you are expecting to see between Dover and Heathrow apart from the M2 and M25 (two boring motorways)

We went to Canterbury Cathedral and Leeds Castle and spent most of the day on the small back roads, stopping for a pub lunch in a quaint town.

If you go to the index, and look for Ports of Call, then the British Isles, there should be people who know these things, or have travelled this route.....:)

Actually, it's $228 pp round trip. I've since found on the web Heathrow-London taxi for approx. $70 and Dover-Heathrow Silverfleet shuttle for approx. $90 each which is $125 pp.

Thanks -- will check them out. Have already been to Canterbury (and Dover Castle) and several other places in UK but not Leeds so that's a thought.

As other posters have mentioned, your figures are out. But even at $114pp e/w Oceana's price is excessive.

 

Going by train or scheduled coach means going into central London & out to the airport from there. Not fun. National Express coach is better than train, because you switch coaches at the one coach station (Victoria) rather than having to switch train stations.

A simple one-way taxi transfer should cost around £100 to £125.

 

Benita had the right idea, Leeds Castle is just off the motorway route & you can also take to the byeways & places like Royal Tunbridge Wells & Hever Castle. Local drivers, rather than airport-based drivers are more likely to know the ideal scenic routes.

But it's going to be a whole lot more expensive than a simple transfer

Your hotel at Heathrow should fall within the free zone for the public buses.

 

I always use those when staying at a Heathrow hotel rather than the overpriced and usually delayed shuttle bus.
