17 and 18 year olds cruising together--can they do the same "activities"?

We are a large group of about 30 made up of parents and daughters who are graduating from high school in 2012 and cruising in March 2012 on Liberty of the Seas. Some of the girls will be 18 when we cruise but some will be still 17--days and months from 18. Wondering if anyone knows whether they will be able to hang out at the "clubs" etc if they are only 17. None of the parents plan to OK alcohol for any of the 18 year olds.

Do they stick arm bands on 17 year olds? can they just blend in with the "crowd"?

Thanks for any info/thoughts!

The 17 year olds won't be able to get into the adult nightclub. The 18 year olds can get in but can't drink, and I watched someone get kicked out of The Crypt last week on FOS for trying to, so they do keep an eye out... Starting at the door to make sure you're at least 18.

That will be touch. 17s will not be allowed into the adult night club and 18s will not be allowed into the teen night club. 17s may also have a curfew, since it will be spring break. There are plenty of other places to hang out, and plenty of evening activities both groups would enjoy such as quest, love and marriage show, etc., but the club situation could be a problem if hanging out in a disco is a priority for them.

If they're still in high school at cruise-time, some cruiselines let the 18-yr into the teen areas. If they just turned 18 and can prove they're in high school. Check with RCL to see what their policy is.

My daughter was offered the opportunity to be "17" or "18" for the duration of the cruise. If she opted for 17, her card was punched accordingly and she gave up disco and casino privileges. There is plenty for 17 year olds to do without going to the disco.

For those that are 17 the only things they cannot do are go to the adult disco (after certain hours) and gamble. They can go just about anywhere else on the ship.

The 18 year olds will be able to go anywhere except the teen/kids clubs (unless they let them forgo their "adult" status). None of the kids (17 or 18) will be able to drink alcohol.

Other than that they can all do the same things together. There is plenty to keep them occupied.

It doesn't matter what the parents okay. RCI will not allow anyone under 21 to purcahse alcohol. If the kids try, (and manage) to get it somehow, they are going to drink it without their parents permission.

that's great to know--i thought i read somewhere that if a parent was on the cruise with the 18 year old, they could authorize beer and wine or something!
Used to be that way, but it's not any longer (for cruises leaving from the US at least).

Thinking about taking some graduating ,mostly 18yo, on a cruise after graduation too. Does anyone know if they will let them be in a cabin together without an adult. We have done this with our kids (teens) before and either had an adjoining room or room close by.

just to clarify, how do they determine who is 17 or 18? by a punch on the card? if the 18 year olds want to "give up" their 18'ness, do they do that when boarding?

The under 18 passengers will have 2 holes punched in their Sea Pass. The 18 year olds will have one hole punched in it.

The short answer is yes. If the cabins are near the adults it won't be a problem. If they will be far away, an adult will have to be BOOKED with them and then you will change rooms once on the ship.

In Europe (med) 18+ can purchase resticted alcohol, but need parents permission.

Most EU countries drinking age is 18.

Hope it helps.
