gillianrose Posted October 28, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 28, 2011 If formal nights on some cruise lines are what discourage you (or encourage you) from cruising with a certain luxury line, you might want to cast your vote in polls that address this issue. There is a formal night poll in Crystal: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1498367

Rare Keith1010 Posted October 29, 2011 #3 Share Posted October 29, 2011 While formal attire discourages some it also encourages others. We are all fortunate to have choice when it comes to cruising. If we all had the same interests and likes there would be one cruise line and we would all eat and dress and drive the same cars and root for the same sports teams and read the same books and life would be rather boring. I know several people who would not sail on certain cruise lines because ships are too large or too small or too casual. Is it really necessary for everything to be the same. Choice is still good. wripro Posted October 30, 2011 #4 Share Posted October 30, 2011 Again, Keith, I agree. If we all wanted the same thing in a cruise line think how difficult it would be to book a cabin.
gillianrose Posted November 7, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted November 7, 2011 If it becomes difficult to book a cabin, then the cruise line or lines would be very prosperous, and that would be a good thing for the industry.

Keith That's why there are so many "niche" cruiselines. For us, we choose Cunard as they stress the old style elegance of ocean liner travel. Oceania has great food & a casual country club atmosphere. No real formal nights, but no boosecruise casual either. Celebrity is kind of a blend of both somewhat formal with a lean to casual dress as well.
