Capricruiser Posted November 4, 2011 #1 Share Posted November 4, 2011 MSC's home port at Genoa today was the scene of extremely heavy flooding very similar to what happened several days ago in the Cinque Terre. The Italian news media haven't mentioned the port or the cruise terminal but it's doubtful that any ship scheduled to arrive or depart from Genoa today would have been able to dock. Seven deaths have been reported so far in the city and many more people are missing. Many streets became raging rivers of muddy water that rose up to the first floors of the buildings and flooding all ground floor stores and residences. TravelRocker Posted November 4, 2011 #2 Share Posted November 4, 2011 OMG, what is happening over there! I was heartbroken over the photos of once beautiful Vernazza on the Cinque Terre and now this! Heartbreaking indeed. So sad for the wonderful people of Italy, let's pray they find everyone and can repair their city in time.
Norwegian Cruiser 73 Posted November 4, 2011 #3 Share Posted November 4, 2011 This is terrible and very sad news. We were in beautiful Genova in August prior to our cruise and we had a wonderful stay there. Condolences from Norway to the people of Genova and to the victims and I hope the best for the missing people.
AmoMondo Posted November 4, 2011 #4 Share Posted November 4, 2011 How awful for the people of Genoa, particularly for the family and friends of those that have perished or are missing. Hope and pray the flood waters will subside soon to allow the locals to start the long process of getting their city and homes restored.
The_Big_M Posted November 5, 2011 #5 Share Posted November 5, 2011 Very sad to hear this. Hope the toll stabilises and there is no more trouble there.
