Kbrance07 Posted November 18, 2011 #1 Share Posted November 18, 2011 One person(22 yr old) in our group lost their driver's license and we are leaving tomorrow out of NO. Will the passport and an ID card be good enough or should they bring a birth certificate as well?
Carolin Posted November 18, 2011 #2 Share Posted November 18, 2011 the passport is the only document you will need. they will need to carry the passport at every port since you need a picture to get back on board.
Big_G Posted November 18, 2011 #3 Share Posted November 18, 2011 Just the passport will be fine. You shouldn't need anything else. Have a great trip.

BND Posted November 18, 2011 #5 Share Posted November 18, 2011 Yep, passport is all that is necessary. What we found interesting was on our Oct cruise, we never needed picture ID to reboard, they just looked at our sea pass and let us board. That's the first time we've ever had that in any port. And, that was in Jamaica and Cozumel, as well as Labadee and included accessing the pier as well as the ship. The person just needs to be prepared to carry their passport off the ship if a photo ID is needed.

jdvmd Posted November 18, 2011 #7 Share Posted November 18, 2011 Thank goodness they have a passport. That is all that is needed.
tahoemc Posted November 18, 2011 #8 Share Posted November 18, 2011 Passport is all you need. We just returned from the Liberty TA and they had us surrender our passports at check in. We had a photocopy, but all we needed was our seapass card to get on and off the ship in ports. Our passports were returned during the crossing after we left La Palma. cabinboy1945 Posted November 18, 2011 #9 Share Posted November 18, 2011 isn't there a better way for id instead of taking your passport off of the ship. i don't think i would take mine off of the ship for any reason other than getting through inspections. be very careful with it , if you do then. nancronin Posted November 18, 2011 #10 Share Posted November 18, 2011 I'd rather take my passport (even with the chance of losing it) then get left behind for some reason and not have it with me.
cruiseguy1016 Posted November 18, 2011 #11 Share Posted November 18, 2011 OP - a passport is the best form of identification. If you have that, you will need nothing else. A driver's license and a birth certificate are needed only if you don't have a passport. isn't there a better way for id instead of taking your passport off of the ship. i don't think i would take mine off of the ship for any reason other than getting through inspections. be very careful with it , if you do then. What if (heaven forbid) your tour runs late or (slimmer chance) you get injured on shore and have to visit a hospital - even for just an hour or two - and you end up missing the ship? Don't you think that would be a good reason to have your passport with you? Without a passport you won't be getting on a plane any time soon to either catch up with the ship at the next port or to go home. Lots of people here make a copy of their passport and bring that on shore with them. A copy might speed up getting another passport issued but a copy will not get you on a plane. We always carry our passports with us when we leave the ship. Just be responsible about it and make sure it doesn't get lost or stolen.
Dayenu Posted November 18, 2011 #12 Share Posted November 18, 2011 That person may want to keep the passport in the money belt, or such safe place.
