Do you bring your GPS on a cruise ?

I want to thank the person who started this thread. I have taken my legend on cruises before and enjoyed it, but this geo-cache thing sounds cool. I can't wait to get started.

Does anyone konw if there is a USB cable for connecting my leged to a PC? I have a serial connection now, but would really like a USB cable. I like my legend and would hate to have to buy a new GPSr.

There are standard serial to USB converter cables available for a few bucks. Easiest source is Ebay or try computergeeks.com (not sure which connector you have but normal is USB to 9-pin). USB is a serial format so it really just needs to convert the right pins.

You can also get virtually any Garmin map products on Ebay at substantial discounts. The Worldmap software I got for $40 looks like the best for the Caribbean - Bluechart requires unlocking for each separate region at around $95/region.

Just a caution, many third party Serial to USB Converters may require specific Drivers to be loaded on to the PC for them to work correctly. Being a Garmin Dealer, we have found that the Cheapest seems to work the best. That being a Belkin Product. For the others we have found Drivers included on MS Streets and Trips, and on National Geographic Topo! Software.

HOWEVER, we have not found any Serial to USB that works with Mac or other Apple Products.
