ramidon1 Posted December 5, 2011 #1 Share Posted December 5, 2011 We went to Barbados on our Honeymoon & this will be our first opportunity to revisit the island. Will be traveling with our 20 & 17 year old kids. Our Honeymoon was spent @ Sam Lord's Castle, which I believe has since burned down (?) My memory is sort of fuzzy about how far that is from where the port is? Is anyone familiar with that area? I remember eating at a restaurant near Sam Lord's that had all kinds of t-shirts decorating the ceiling & walls...anyone know what this was? Is there any excursion/tour out there that might include this area?
Aplmac Posted December 15, 2011 #2 Share Posted December 15, 2011 We went to Barbados on our Honeymoon & this will be our first opportunity to revisit the island. Our Honeymoon was spent @ Sam Lord's Castle ===> OMG -Fabulous memories. Cling to them. which I believe has since burned down ===> Most unfortunately yes.. My memory is sort of fuzzy about how far that is from where the port is? ===> Long way away! I remember eating at a restaurant near Sam Lord's that had all kinds of t-shirts decorating the ceiling & walls...anyone know what this was? Is there any excursion/tour out there that might include this area? ===> I doubt it. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it's hardly worth the effort. Yes it burnt down (locals are pretty sure it was deliberate..) and it is now nothing but a standing shell that you don't want to see. It's a national disgrace that the situation was allowed to come to this, even before the fire! (see five attached pics taken 2 yrs. before the fire) Please harbour your fond memories of it, as you remember it Back When -really. I recall a crazy lil restaurant/bar place right outside Sam Lord's gates almost that could have been the place with the T-shirts. Sam Lord's is at the end of its own long cul de sac, a good distance from most everything else and now that it's a wreck, and the gates are locked.. I very much doubt any tour would journey anywhere within a mile or two of it. Sorry. If you really must go, you'll need to make it a pilgrimage, hire a taxi to take you but it'll be depressing. The entire property is in a state of ruin, even the grounds. Don't go -remember it like it was. I'm so sorry.. :o .
