Miami Beach post-cruise

We will be staying an extra day post-cruise, and would like to spend most of it at the beach. I am thinking of booking a hotel near the airport for an early morning departure next day, but would like to take a taxi or rent a car (for 4 of us) to the beach. Can anybody make recommendations for what part of the beach to go with safe parking available if I rent a car, or would it be best to take a cab? Or bus? Hotel with beach shuttle?

Stay overnight in South Beach. It isn't unreasonably far from the airport and you won't need (or want) a car. We really liked the Blue Moon in SoBe. 1 block from the beach and near lots of restaurants, etc.

If you just want to go to the beach and then walk around I would just take a taxi over from the hotel to South Beach. It is safe to part there if you prefer to rent a car but a taxi will be relatively easy.

Stay in South Beach. Cab to SB from POM is $15, and another $32+ cab ride will get you to the MIA airport the next morning. because of traffic and parking fees, you are better off without a car in SB.
