Farewell Party

On the Inspiration 2 weeks ago it was noted as an upcoming event early in the week and then on the tear off section of the Fun Times the day we were in Cozumel at 7:15pm. When I got there only officers were there. I went to the bar and got some people to go for the free drinks. You can order anything you like or take the drinks they offer.

I agree - I wish they would reinstate the Captain's welcome aboard cocktail party with free drinks and forget this 'secret' fun farewell that no one is really told about! Shame on Carnival for doing this!

I may have to print up my own ADS - and post them around the ship on the last day telling everyone about the party and free drinks - hoping hundreds show up! Take that Carnival :D

We walk around with a glass of wine we bring from our cabin and notice all of the ship officers will stand around either talking amongst themselves or by themselves looking very bored.

So I will go over to one and ask if they are as bored as they look and have had the most interesting conversations since they started doing this.

It is kind of odd. They stand in a corner talking to one another and all the pax walk by and look at them, but rarely does anyone talk to them. It's almost as if they are on display, like tigers in a zoo!

I looked at my FunTimes from Fascination last week, because I didn't remember anything about it. There was nothing on the last day that I could find. Will look at Day 1 when I get home tonight.

Don't remember seeing one listed on Glory to Bermuda 10/16 either.

Captain's Party? No officers anywhere that I could find. On Fantasy May 2010, they announced them and they lined up on the stairs midway above the Lobby bar, so people would watch from all the decks around the atrium.

We attended one a couple of cruises ago on the Pride and it was packed. The only thing that I could figure is that they must have mentioned it at the Welcome Aboard show, and since so many pax are first-timers on that sailing, they there were all there to hear it. There's no way the average Joe would attend based on what's printed in the Funtimes.

On the Elation in April, we went to the farewell party because I heard about it here at CC. If not for being on these boards, I never would have known or gone to it.

There were not too many people there and DH tipped our waiter a few dollars. He made sure we had plenty drinks! As a matter of fact, by the time 6 o'clock came, we had 2 or 3 drinks each that we had not even drank yet! Rest assured, they did not go to waste!! :)

We only had about 24 people on the Inspiration in September. I did get to order a couple of BBCs and got a Bloody Mary to go for dinner. Some staff were there when we walked in but they all left. When the CD came in people were already seated and she never came over to say anything and she left with the others.

That was nice but it was hard to get a drink. Now it's supposed to be in the Atrium with the officers. I go and see no one!?!? I haven't seen it really happen at all the way it is now.

I like the farewell party better. Way more drinks. Plus, I really couldn't care less about the ship's officers, unless they run us into an iceburg;)

On the Miracle last week, I think there were almost as many servers as there were guests at the fun farewell party. It was in the theater with plenty of free drinks, band playing, singing and dancing on the stage. It was a great party.

Right, so I looked again, and also looked at the Glory schedule and there it was - at 5 p.m. on the last day for both, not in the theatre but in the aft lounge.

Oh well. It's not like I needed more alcohol. Have been buying wine packages and end up with plenty to finish off the last day/evening and on Glory, I had free drinks in the casino.

We went to the Farewell Party on the Spirit in October in the Versaille Lounge (below the main lounge) and because all the bartenders and drink servers were telling everyone about the party that day, the place was packed. I didn't see any officers there, just the CD Sparkles and the band for dancing.

We were on the Fascination in September and they had it (sorry cannot remember the name of the lounge) on the last night from 5-6pm in the lounge at the back of the boat that the comedy shows were in. I got a little tipsy trying new drinks and couldn't eat dinner.

I'm with you on this one. We still get free drinks on the last night and a buck off drinks on elegant night. Win win for us.

Is the Farewell Party like the Past Guest Party where the waiters have trays with a variety of drinks? On my last Carnival cruise, the only drink served at the farewell party was the nastiest tasting 'champagne'.

Yes - waiters with trays and a variety of drinks - wondering why you were only served champagne? (and nasty champagne to boot!)

I'm happy that there is the farewell party instead of the Captain's cocktail party. I guess I like it because there are fewer people and we get a chance to get a drink we like rather than waiting and waiting for the same drink when there are a lot more people there.

Being selfish, let's not tell others, lol. We can get 2 drinks now instead of the one we used to get. Seriously, I don't care if others come to it, it is far more relaxed than the old parties.

If one wants to chat with the Captain, just walk up and start a conversation. Easy, peasy. To me, it's a win-win, $1 off cocktails and then free drinks another night. I hope it isn't discontinued. Plus, it's nice to have the farewell party to remember.
