93beachbum Posted December 21, 2011 #1 Share Posted December 21, 2011 So I've decided to do my first solo on the RC Jewel in January! Can't pass up the deal! Any Jewel tips for a solo? Thinking I probally won't do dining room.. Thoughts? Can't wait! Love last minute deals and living close to cruise ports.
flcruzer03 Posted December 21, 2011 #2 Share Posted December 21, 2011 I sailed the Jewel earlier this month...Great ship and iteniary... Why not sign up for MTD? You can ask to be seated with other people if you want...then you have dinner companions..and if they aren't to your liking you aren't "stuck" with them...or you can choose to sit alone at the 2 person table...they are close enough together that people tend to talk back & forth..but again you are not "obligated" to try to carry on a conversation... KirkNC Posted December 21, 2011 #3 Share Posted December 21, 2011 You need to hook up with RuthC, she hangs out on the HAL board. She sails solo all the time and would have some good advice. I would not avoid the MDR just because you are solo.

A 4 nighter a collared shirt and long pants works. My last cruise on Jewel 12/05/2011 did My Time Dinning worked out great. Just go up to deck 5 when you get on ship to sign up you can pick size of table. That's on port side:)
93beachbum Posted December 22, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted December 22, 2011 Thanks for the feedback everyone! I'm going to play it by ear and see how the days go. Maybe check with the Maitr d, and find out who my table mates are first. Don't want to look like a loser being there by myself. This is my first cruise adventure at it alone. Don't have a problem on land so it shouldn't be too big of an issue on the ship. Can't wait 21 days!;)

Most of my cruises are with Carnival who has traditional dining. My first cruise everybody at the table was singles except one couple. I did MTD on the Freedom, that was different for Carnival ( I had sailed one solo on NCL with Freestyle which is MTD). On one of the Freedom nights I asked to be with a group and had a good time, even met some of them on excursions.
Mademypoint Posted December 22, 2011 #7 Share Posted December 22, 2011 They are used to people wanting to change tables so if you don't care for the people on the first night it's no big deal to change. I changed tables FIVE times because the first night I found out there was one other couple so I said that's not acceptable, why do I want to dine with a couple who are traveling together and why would they not want other company? The next night they moved me to another table but nobody showed up so they escorted me to a different table with a really great couple from Australia and another couple from here... the next night I went down one deck and had four other people but they were all at the other end of the table so I could not really talk to them so the following night I went to a table on deck three with a couple and a party of three and that was fun and then when none of them showed up a few nights later I was invited to yet another table so that's where I ate the last three nights of the cruise. Colorado Kat Posted December 23, 2011 #9 Share Posted December 23, 2011 I did my first solo cruise in Oct, and did the Anytime Dining. Met some great people that I hung out with for the rest of the cruise. Loved it, and never felt awkward.
