edgee Posted December 21, 2011 #1 Share Posted December 21, 2011 DW and I have taken about 20 cruises, all mid to large size ships on Cunard, Celebrity, HAL, Princess and Crystal. We are considering Oceania Riviera for a Caribbean cruise in early 2013, having heard very good reviews and seen gorgeous photos of Marina and knowing that Riviera will be similar and maybe even better. We are very limited in the diet we eat, so the diversity of gourmet food is not a huge plus for us. We enjoy on ship evening entertainment and enrichment programs evenings on sea days and my wife likes space for exercise walking. I very much enjoy playing blackjack in the casino. Has Oceania upped their game in the areas of on-ship programming and entertainment and is the jogging track (using Marina as an example) of reasonable size that we will not be disappointed? Also, Oceania marketing says to hurry and purchase due to likely price increases after Dec. 31. Should we take that warning seriously? Thanks in advance for advice anyone wishes to offer. cruzmaven Posted December 21, 2011 #2 Share Posted December 21, 2011 I'm sure the Riviera is going to be a beautiful ship, as the Marina is. However, from your brief description, it seems that Oceania stresses those things that are not important to you and does not excel at those things that are important to you. Evening entertainment in the showroom is mediocre at best. The small casino has one or two blackjack tables which are usually full. I haven't found the enrichment speakers on O to be particularly interesting. I'm not sure about the jogging track on Marina, I'm sure others can address that. Having said that, if you want to lock in the price, make a reservation. If you find something that seems to be a better fit for you later, you can always cancel before final payment. Rare LHT28 Posted December 21, 2011 #3 Share Posted December 21, 2011 Based on your likes for evening activities I would have to say Oceania may not work for you The jogging track is small ...it goes around the funnel area of the ship which also have other outdoor activities on the same deck It is a personal choice
Paulchili Posted December 21, 2011 #4 Share Posted December 21, 2011 I echo the sentiments posted above - Oceania seems like a poor fit for your preferences. However, the only way to know for sure is to try them. If you find a good itinerary & price, book it. If you find something better (or change your mind) later, you'll get a full refund if cancelled before final payment
