HazeGray Posted December 27, 2011 #1 Share Posted December 27, 2011 We are booked on a early June Rhine river cruise. We have been reading about the recent low water levels affecting the fall and winter cruises. What can we expect for water levels in June?

We have been reading about the recent low water levels affecting the fall and winter cruises. What can we expect for water levels in June? Hi Previously, I would not be concerned at all but we're certainly seeing some interesting weather patterns recently. This November, we were in the Adriatic and very surprisingly enjoyed unseasonably warm temperatures and not a drop of rain In our view, low water would generally be much more of a problem than high, since there aren't the same challenges that bridges create when navigating a river such as the Danube. Best of luck, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
editor@cruisecritic Posted December 27, 2011 #4 Share Posted December 27, 2011 Hi. June shouldn't be a problem (rivers can run high in the beginning of the season -- April/May -- because of snow melt). On the other hand, December shouldn't have been a problem and it was. It's just too early to know, but I wouldn't worry too much. Also, just a quick note: High water levels can be just as much a problem as low ones; if the ships can't get under bridges, you have to go places by bus. I did a Rhone/Saone rivers cruise one year (again, think it was either early spring or late fall, can't recall exactly) and the rivers were too high for our ship to get under the bridges of the Saone. Just impacted one day though.... Carolyn Carolyn Spencer Brown Editor in Chief Cruise Critic We are booked on a early June Rhine river cruise. paul929207 Posted December 27, 2011 #5 Share Posted December 27, 2011 Unless you can predict rainfall levels, you can only hope for the best.
Rare steamboats Posted December 27, 2011 #6 Share Posted December 27, 2011 Watch out for floods! Or low water... Unless you find someone who can make a longterm forecast noone can answer your questions. Usually you should by fine in June - but when is weather behaving as usual... steamboats
