Nicest thing done for you an a cruise

I went on my first cruise, when I was twenty, with my (estranged) dad, his new wife, and her extended family. Because I was a last minute booking I ended up sharing a stateroom with a stranger - another young woman my age travelling with her parents. The sleeping arrangements coupled with my family situation left me feeling very 'out of my element' and kind of blue. On the first or second afternoon of the cruise I got up the nerve to order room service - a pot of earl grey tea - while getting ready for dinner. My steward brought me a beautiful set up with tea, lemon slices, etc on what I remember to be a silver tray and in a silver tea pot. She must have realized how fantastic I thought that was because every single day for the rest of the cruise at around the time I was back in the room getting dressed for dinner, there would be a knock on my door and a delivery tray of a decked out tea service. Such a special memory because it made me feel included in the whole experience and spoiled.

We were a little worried about using the MDR with so many kids and only two adults--we did not want to be bothering others with noise or too much activity.

I thought the kids did pretty good, considering, but it was especially heartwarming that a lady, who had sat near us every night, came up on the last night and complimented us on the kids' behavior and said what a pleasure it was to see such nice and mannerly children.

It kind of made my cruise! And no, they were not perfect, but they did make us proud.

Awww...that is so nice to hear! I tell my kids that if any strangers compliment them on their behavior, I pay each child $10.

I've had to pay out a few times now... :D

That's a very sweet memory. You found the silver lining in your cloud. I hope you can still do that. So many people can't. :(

On my first cruise, my husband, daughter, mother and father-in-law, and sister-in-law went together. My sister-in-law has some mental and physical disabilities. She absolutly loves to be waited on and loves to talk to people. When at the dining room on the first night, she told the waiter that she wanted the cheese plate for desert every night. She had been on a cruise before and loved it. From that night on, they made her feel like royalty for an hour and a half, bringing her the cheese plate as soon as we sat down and again for dessert and always filling her coffee cup to the top.

Our daughter was only 19 months old and they always gave her the first choice of bread and then quickly got her the "dogs" she ordered. She loved the hot dogs and told them. By the third night it was on the table when we sat down. She ended up having two plates and the waiters were so attentive as she "talked" to them each night, even with all the other work they had to do.

On our second cruise, it was just the two of us, and we meet some great people from Georgia who were closer to our parents age than our own. They always welcomed us to come sit with them where ever they saw us. A few mornings I went to the MDR before the husband woke up so I would not wake him. They were always there and would have me sit with them so I would not be 'alone'. They paid for a drink for my husband one night at one of the shows he went to. (I did not know that I was pregnant yet and was so tired he had to go to most late shows by himself, lol).

We leave in just a few days for our third cruise together. This time I asked my sister and her friend to join us. We are paying for most expenses to get to the ship and then an excursion for all of us. They help us with our children and this is our way of repaying them-- A 5 night cruise with none of our children. (We have three and my sister and her friend live with us.)

Was standing at the photo gallery on the ship when I overhead a passenger asking the sales rep how much a new memory card was. I signaled for his wife to come over and told her I had an extra one in my carry-on I'd give them for free. She told me how their camera had been stolen and they lost all the pictures they had taken up to that point. He was buying a new camera on the ship and I told her to tell her husband to hold off on getting the memory card while I ran to my room. I was back in less than five minutes and gave them a new, still in the wrapper 16gb ultra memory card. He was SO happy because the ship was trying to sell him one for $55. In appreciation his gift to me was a brand new Canadian $20 bill, made of plastic. Their money has apparently changed over from paper bills to these really cool plastic bills.

It was the neatest souvenir that I got from the entire cruise! :D

DH was taken to the medical center after an issue that occurred in front of the Celebrity Captain's Club hostess, Mellissa Snow. Mellissa searched the ship to find me rather than making an announcement over the PA system that would have scared me. She found found me and reassured me that he would be fine. By the time I got to the med. center, he was ready to be discharged. I really appreciated her efforts.

When my daughter was about 18 months old, my parents took us on a cruise with them, my grandparents and 2 of my aunts on HAL. My daughter had broccoli with her dinner the first night and ate all of it. Every night after that our waiters would have a plate of broccoli waiting for her. She loved it and it gave her something to do while we waited for dinner. Just a little thing but everyone was amazed at how much she liked it and still mention it to her (she is 9 now).

On a family cruise for our 40th anniversary, our just turned 3 year old grandson was pretty antsy at dinner, but the waiter noted that he LOVED fruit and french fries. After that, at every dinner, there was a big plate of fruit followed by a big plate of french fries as soon as we sat down. It kept him happy and occupied and at least it was half healthy! He just turned 11 and still remembers that--and he still loves fruit and french fries.

On a Carnival Magic trip we tried out the new italian restaurant for lunch and while sitting in a booth-type area, $250 in cash (I was going to the casino afterwards) slipped out of my pocket. I didn't miss it for awhile but suddenly it dawned to me that I didn't have it anymore. After searching about I went to the front desk and they didn't have it. I went up to the restaurant and asked about it and was told that, yes, a waitress had it so I got her name and went back to the desk and asked about it again. After awhile a gentleman came out and lo and behold, it had been turned in by the waitress. I was very, very happy and still think about how honest she was. Thanks a lot, Gina.

My DW, DD (6 yo special needs), and I were doing a B2B in December on NOS out of New Orleans. On the first leg of our trip, my DW and DD were heading to the pool, when my DD became sick. Afterwards, she was fine. When we returned to the room, we had a message from the ship's Dr. to call them. We were advised not to leave the room. The Dr. came and evaluated our DD, and we explained that when she's excited she sometimes gets sick after eating, especially if she eats or drinks too much. Didn't matter, we were all quaranteened for 24 hours. The ship had had a major Noro outbreak on the previous cruise, and was still rebounding from it on this one. The next afternoon, we were released from quarenteen, but not without having missed a day in port. One of the guest services officers had very helpful and supportful during our experience. We returned from dinner to find a "Make your own" stuffed bunny waiting in our cabin for our DD. Definitely a kindness we never expected!

I have had great interaction with all of the staff on the 4 cruises I have taken.Only one rude person to date. He was a photographer with "Ellie" on carnival. All of the servers were great .One made me a Rose out of a napkin in a wine glass, asked me to dance with them, special attention given, talked to us when we would see them around the ship, same goes with the room attendants and photo people, except that one guy.I have even sang in the talent show on a 5 day cruise.

On our second cruise myself and 3 friends did the backpack program in progresso. We met Sharon and see took us on a tour of the school, and around the area.Such poor living conditions.

When you see the poverty that most live in it will break your heart and make you so thankful, and feel so blessed at what we have here in the US.We carried school and medical supplies to Sharon for her program. We received much more than we gave!!!!!!

We paid someones bar tab, we are well known in our area as pay it forward couple, last year a man in our complex where we live, its a private home area with a runway for private planes, and since we were blest with alot of toys, my husband was talking to a lady friend at his job. she complained that the govt does not give her enough to pay her bills, so my husband went to the lighting company to pay 1 years worth of her electricty.

then my husband and I bought a local kid his first car.

We give things away, cause god tells us to do so...and we show love for mankind in the things we do, cause love is all we have to share.

i suggest that you do someone a good deed does not mean to give them a cruise or buy a car, get them a hug or a cup of coffee... buy someone dinner this may be the only thing they will ever have. make someone feel special and wanted, not many people feel this way anymore.

when you give part of yourself god pays you back with more than riches, the weathly person is a god loving person and you will be blest the rest of your life!:D

That is Amazing!! I totally agree with you and this yr for Christmas instead of an chocolate advent calendar I made a pay it forward calendar for my 11 yr old daughter!! It had things like pay for someone's meal or put money on a vending machine :) 25 days of giving and it was awesome to see her face while doing this !!! We don't have a lot of money but we do have God and Love and our Family and that is all we need ! God Bless you an doge things you do for others!!

One thing that comes to mind, is my DH went into port in Maui by himself. While in port he purchased a flower arrangement for me and was trying to get a taxi to bring him back to the ship with the flowers. Where ever he was he was having difficulty finding a taxi, asked a local for help. Happened to be a young woman, who offerred to drive back to the ship herself which she did. My DH appreciated the assistance tried to give her money for the gas at least, she refused but he prevailed and gave her some money as he learned she was a single mother with several kids. She finally accepted the money for her kids.

Another example, we had a really wonderful time once when we hired a taxi while visiting a port in Poland. We did not speak much Polish and the driver did not speak much English, regardless we managed. The driver took us to Gadnask where we visited the old town. We spent several hours their on our own, the driver came back and picked us up and returned to the port. We stopped had lunch, invited the driver to join us. The driver took the scenic route so we could see as much as possible and also took the initiative to stop at churches along the way, since the Pope had visited Poland and the Polish people were so proud of the Pope who was a native.

Sailing on the Vision of the Seas, Oct 2011, a Holy Land cruise, I was "hit" with the Norovirus on the next to last day of the cruise. It was a miserable experience, but I recovered with the assist of the infirmary. After a day in quarantine, I was went to the dining room for meals, and my waiter and assistant waiter did all they could to feed me what would be appropriate. The assistant went back to his cabin and brought me his own lemon and ginger tea bags, which help to soothe upset stomachs. They were really kind, beyond the call of duty.

On the NCL Dawn in 2007 I fell down a flight if stairs in Honduras. I tore the ligaments in my ankle and was laid up the rest of the trip. Our steward came a few times a day to see if I needed anything and always had fresh ice.

On the NCL Seaward, our Matre'd took to us. His name was Alwin. He discovered that we really loved the fruit soups. Back then, they were icecream-based, and especially yummy. At the end of the cruise, he had copies made of all the fruit soup recipes they made and gave them to us.

On another, NCL Star, we were on Maui and went on a shorex to some of the highlights. When we were returning to the ship, the bus driverinvited us to stay on to go over to Lahaina with him. We were advised to be on one of the shuttles coming back by 7:30. We were on a bus by 7:15, and all was well. Famous last words. About halfway back, we came to a screaching halt. Sat there on a 2-lane road for 1-1/2 hours with no knowledge of what had happened. He called his wife, who finally saw on the news that there had been an accident on the road ahead, with a fatality. This meant about a 4-hour delay, as the coroner had to come from Honolulu and conduct his investigation. We had a dilemma, as the ship was to leave at 10:00. We've all heard the stories. He managed to turn the bus around and take us back to Lahaina. There were a lot of people milling around, but the town had shut down except for one bar. Someone came along with a 2-way radio with ship communications and told us to gather at the dock. We were advised that the Captain was bringing the vessel around the island to get us. It was around i:30 a.m. before we got back on the ship. To the staff's credit, there was an officer to greet us coming aboard, and they had a full buffet set up for us, knowing it had been a while since we had eaten. They even comp'd the wine. Made the best of the situation. Found out later that there were some 700 of us over there. No way could they have left that many. Still a great impression for us.

Sorry to be so long, and there are a lot more.

Bill
