Memorable Royal Caribbean crew member experiences

Recommended Posts

  • 1 month later...

A couple of years ago on Navigator our waiter, asst waiter and head waiter were all Filipino. We had lived in the Philippines many years ago and loved telling our MDR waiters about our favorite foods from the R.P. The last night of the cruise, lo and behold, the waiters brought all three of us piping hot bowls of Filipino sinagang soup! It was delicious. They had brought it to us all the way from the crew's buffet. That was such a special thing to do and we have never forgotten it.

Another Filipina, Marisol, on Brilliance was a waiter in the WJ. We used to love to talk to her about Manila and, yes, the food. She was so friendly and used to make us special iced tea in the morning because it is not served in the WJ in the morning. We left her a big tip and praised her friendliness and helpfulness in the Customer Survey. Lo and behold, we were on Majesty a good year later and here comes Marisol running up to us and hugging us and telling us how much she appreciated what we wrote. We were astounded she would remember us after all that time.

We had a wonderful steward on Liberty. He was quite a playful, friendly guy. The last night of the cruise, he made a towel "man" with one of Hubby's t-shirts, baseball hat, my flip flops and sunglasses. When we came in the room, at first we actually thought it was someone lying on our bed. Then we realized what it was. We just laughed and laughed. It was so funny. We took pictures of the "man" and our steward beside him.

These are just a few examples of many of Royal Caribbean crew who have given us exceptional service and been such exemplary employees of the company. They are the reason we come back to Royal repeatedly.

On my evaluation form I listed

Laundry crew. Always clean sheets and my dry cleaning was delivered the next day

The line handlers. They secured the ship to the pier so we could go ashore

The brass polishers. They made the ship shine

And of course the Dishwashers. I did that in the Navy

On the Oasis Dec 5, 2009 we met Milton in the WJ who had quite the infectious laugh - could always tell where he was when you walked through the door.. was always telling jokes, doing magic tricks and laughing...

Fast Forward to the Allure on Dec 5, 2010 walking into the WJ for our embarkation day snack and all I hear is Milton bellowing across the room was "Ms Elizabeth... YOU CAME BACK!!!" followed by the signature laugh :)

HOW in the world they remember our names especially on a ship with 6000 passengers weekly is still beyond me!

This is Milton... and I think he's laughing :)

Head Waiter on Serenade, Marcelo. When we cruised on Serenade in January, we told him we would be back in 5 weeks, he gave us his Email and told us to Email him the Wednesday before our next cruise with table request. Do to a mix up the other couple we were traveling with were in second seating and we were in first. We went to MDR upon arriving and were told it was unlikely they would be able to switch us to a table for 4. No problem, shorty after, we got a call from Marcelo who had arranged for us to have a table for 4 in his station right in the center of the dining room. Best and frendliest Head Waiter on any cruise. Always stopped by and talked to us whenever he saw us in the WJ and when we left I got a big Bro hug and handshake and wife got a hug and kiss on cheek. I wish him well when the Serenade goes to Europe, he is an awesome employee for RCI.

Serenade of the Seas May 2011- Coleen, who was the greeter at Windjammer- I know I have see other comments about her on CC before! She had the biggest smile in the world and the most amazing attitude! I would be curious to know if she'll stay with Serenade when it goes overseas of if she'll move to a different ship- how does that work, anyways? I would also add that we were very lucky, and found all staff that we interacted with to be top notch. Huge reason we're loyal Royal!

Cabin Attendant on Vision Panama Canal several years ago. My wife hurt her back lifting a suitcase into the car headed to airport, then flew ATL to Acapulco. Back was in real pain. Our CA took extra care of her; brought ice packs from her accommodation and checked on her on her off hours! Excellent! A large gratuity was graciously given!

I have 2 that stick out:

My first cruise on the Liberty was for my birthday, even though the cruise was about 3 weeks after the actual date. Dwight was my assistant waiter. He was from Jamaica, which is also my background and we clicked from the first evening.

I made mention to him casually in the Windjammer the next day that I was cruising to celebrate my birthday; I didn't even know he heard me because he was acting like my MDR waiter even though we were in the Windjammer! LOL He actually lined up to get my food for me, which was nice.

So, fast forward to dinner the following evening, and all of a sudden, I hear someone singing Happy Birthday; imagine my surprise when I turn around and see the Head Waiter, Dwight and about 2 other waiters from neighboring tables singing to me! I was so embarrassed because it wasn't actually my birthday, but he's like that's why you're here, so we'll celebrate now. He brought out a lovely slice of cake; I took quite a few pictures of it. Needless to say, he set the bar for what I've come to expect from Royal Caribbean in terms of service.

Now, on my last cruise, my room steward was Alson. I was on deck 9 on the Explorer and he was extremely great. Every request that I asked for was handled with ease; I figure my room was a bit easier to deal with since I was traveling solo, but he still gave me the proper care and even tried to assist me when I couldn't get the Superbowl on my cabin TV. My comment card was about him and him alone; I believe he's going on break this month which is great because I know he said he missed his family a lot.

Also, another staff member on my last cruise made it quite enjoyable; He's actually a part of the entertainment staff (a member of Roots Vibration, the poolside band) I requested the same song almost every day and they played it all the time! LOL I was grateful for that. We had a nice conversation as we were waiting to pull out of St Thomas and remembered me throughout the rest of the cruise.

Just reminiscing makes me want to go back on another cruise tomorrow!

On our cruise on the Splendour, we really lucked out. Everyone was amazing. On our first day, we walked around the ship getting a drink from different bars. We ended up in the Solarium and the bartender George (usually in the Schooner bar from what he told us), became a fast friend. We went back to that bar everyday just to sit and talk with him and he went out of his way to find drinks that we loved. He also worked making drinks for the MDR and he recognized our drink orders and would come out and chat with us during dinner too.

Aside from George, bartender Girts and server Gabriel in the casino were super friendly and accommodating. Our servers in the MDR, Sebastian and Marino, were great and the casino staff all knew us by name. We saw the casino staff at our restaurant while they were out having lunch together in port and they all stopped by our table to say hi.

Because of the staff, we booked another trip on the Splendour so we can go visit them....and see the upgrades to the ship of course!

Has anyone seen him recently? He was our favorite bartender on Brilliance for a couple of cruises a few years ago. We sail on Brilliance again 9/1 to 9/21, Copenhagen Baltic B2B with TA to Port Liberty. Would be great fun to sea and sail with him again!!!

In addition to both these folks, Alejandro on Jewel was so friendly and remembered us every time we walked in the WJ no matter the hour, he always had a big smile and I made a point at the end of the cruise to mention how we appreciated his friendliness and great smile every day in front of his boss:D Also on my comment card. I didn't get a WOW card this cruise or I would have given him one.

This used to be me and I hated myself for it...now I write down everyones name (on my spread sheet on crusies and on land trips in my little note book) If I think I will forget I take a photo of their name tag or name card on the table. I just want to be able to them credit on the comment card or wow card, and don't want them to miss out because I have a bad memory!
