favorite foods in Blue Lagoon?

The Blue Lagoon was great, but we found it to be inconsistent. The wings were fantastic and I got them almost everyday. But sometime it was 8 wings, sometimes 10. Near the end of the cruise I ordered wings and they came after my entree and were totally different from the ones earlier in the week.

Fish & Chips were really good...i had them twice on the Gem, both times as midnight snacks. i don't know if i'd "waste" a dinner on Blue Lagoon when there are so many other choices. For me, it serves as the equivilant of hitting the diner late at night after seeing a show or going to a bar

We love The Blue Lagoon fish and chips on every NCL ship we've been on that has a Blue Lagoon. On the Spirit tho, the fish and chips were only served twice and that was at lunch time in the pub instead of at the BL. That may have changed by now, as our Spirit cruise was in 2005.

When we were on the Star last year some of our group were hungry after a late show (I was NOT one who was hungry and the thought of eating again made me queasy) but we all went to the Blue Lagoon.

Some ordered meals and some just ordered dessert. When the waitress got to me I said I didn't want anything. She said, "Not even strawberry ice cream?" Now for some reason, even in my state of feeling like a beached whale, strawberry ice cream sounded good and I said yes. It was some of the very best strawberry ice cream I have ever eaten!

I have mixed feelings about the Blue Lagoon. As some have said, it's diner food, which has a time and place. I'm glad it's an option.

I like breakfast there (omelets, pancakes, french toast, pastries, eggs any style) because it's not crowded and it's quick.

I like the proscuitto and mozzarella panini. It was indeed proscuitto and it looked and tasted like real mozzerella, not some processed slice.

Wonton soup is good if you are really looking for something light.

Chicken wings were awful on two cruises, but good on our Dec. 2011 sailing on the Dawn. Someone mentioned they are inconsistent in serving size. It says on the menu you can request a 6 or 10 piece.

I agree with everyone about the fries. They are pretty good. Thin and perfectly crispy.

I'm not a huge cheesecake fan, but I tried it there. It wasn't impressive to me, but it's got to be a REALLY awesome cheesecake for me to get excited about it. So in all fairness, people are probably right. If you like cheesecake, it's probably pretty delicious.

Excuse me for my ignorance, but is the Blue Lagoon the buffet area and if not is this a free restaurant. We are sailing on NCL for the first time and want to be a bit more prepared for Freestyle type restaurants.

The Blue Lagoon is free, and it is not the buffet. It's a 24/7 hour place, that should actually be considered 23/7 because they close for cleaning in the early morning. You should try it at least once, if not more.

So, this is a sit down type of place to eat at? I see the serve alot of comfort type food, I am correct in this statement.

Does any one know about what drinks are free on the ship?

Blue lagoon is a casual sit down place but you can also make a request for the food to go. Free drinks are coffee, tea, milk, juices (not the freshly squeezed) in the morning. In additions, many of the ships have now added lemonade and flavored waters as free options.

It's not a buffet. You sit down and order, eat at the table, or you can take it to go. It's a restaurant type style. It's free and open 24/7. :)

This picture was taken on the Epic while we were sitting at the Blue Laggon. It over looks the Atrium (as most of them do). It's a wide angle lens, so you can see how it wraps around. (it was located on the end where we were sitting and wrapped around to the right). They also had pool tables (I believe or air hockey) over there as well and it's right beside the casino on the Epic.

The one they had on the Spirit was a much different layout...very neat, but small.

They had tables lined up along the windows, a walk way down the middle (of passengers that were just strolling by to get to different areas) and the cooking part on the other side. There was a little cove area that was really cool to eat in.

Although this place was really small and busy, we never did have a problem finding a place to sit at any given time. Service was fast and great.

Another picture (not mine, but belongs to beyondships) that shows the other side of the tables, walk way, cooking area.

Wait, am I missing something here? They don't have sugar on board? Why can't you take unsweetened tea and make it sweet?

Every time I've tried to sweeten cold tea, I just end up with sugar at the bottom of the glass. Like the OP said, it ain't southern sweet tea. Southern sweet tea has the sugar dissolved in while the tea is still hot. Some folks make a syrup with boiling water and sugar to add to fresh tea. The taste is very different.

We don't drink tea on the ship. We stick to ice water.

I've noticed the folks who were confused about the sweet tea and availability of sugar were not southerners. You guys would probably not like our sweet tea. Most folks from other areas find our tea too sweet. The sugar really gets fused into the drink when we mix in into hot tea.

I think that my post got lost in the sweet tea debate LOL. I am hoping that someone knows if the Blue Lagoon on the Dawn is serving potato skins. They are my all time FAV of anything to eat at the Blue Lagoon. I am sailing her in January and really hope that they are served there.

There were no potato skins on the Dawn in January. My wife loves potato skins and would have been thrilled. She made do with the chicken wings and spinach/artichoke dip though.

Um, Kim, there's no Blue Lagoon on the Epic. Their 23/7 restaurant is O'Sheehans

I knew once I posted that someone would come along and correct me. :D

I guess this means that I need to go back on the Epic so that I can remember. :p

My first and favorite Blue Lagoon is the walk thru one on the Spirit. Packed almost all the time for breakfast and I noticed a lot of the same pax taking other meals there as well.

DH who is a total Wing Nut did not care for the wings in any of the BLs.

He thought the hamburgers and hotdogs were okay, like AM-PM stuff heated up in a microwave.

I like the salad, corned beef sandwich, Chicken Fingers/Strips, deep fried mozzarella sticks and the Brownie Supreme. Oh that was a great dessert, with a chewy sort of brownie...just have to time it right (lunch or late night, not dinner) to get your own 'precious'.

Love Fish and Chips but on the Jewel, it was a disaster! Used my fork to cut into more manageable pieces and pressing it down to cut raised a hellacious oil slick. I think somebody in the galley goofed with either the fryer setting for the oil (too low) or over-crowding the oil with too many pieces, as my pieces were soggy to the max.

So disappointed. The cheesecake was good and the strawberry shortcake alright. I enjoyed the breakfasts here, faster than MDR and much less obnoxious/crowded than the Buffet, although DH did bring takeout breakfast back twice from the Garden Cafe and I really owe him :D

BL breakfast was filling, reasonably fast, and could be customized. The concept of fried egg whites was met with puzzlement but Egg White Omelet got the thumbs up sign in various languages, although the latter with ham filling, bacon (eh) and sausage (yum) may have seemed strange.

Service was generally good, with the one exception...Jim, it may have been the same person, eh?

Sailing on the Jewel again. It has been a while since we were on the Jewel. What are your favorite foods in Blue Lagoon and is anything new?

wow, 5 pages of responses: I think I like just about what everyone else does: the fish and chips and the buffalo wings. Hubby likes the hamburgers.
