PA Beachlovers Posted February 12, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2012 We are going to Grand Cayman Oct 31 on the Carnival Freedom, one of three ships there on that day. Any ideas on an excursion away from all the people?
Colorado Kat Posted February 13, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 13, 2012 Well, if you rent a car, you can get around to the far side of the island.
drew sailbum Posted February 13, 2012 #3 Share Posted February 13, 2012 Rent a car and visit the Pedro Castle historic site and the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park. Both are uniquely Caymanian and far less crowded than the beaches or stingray trips.
elbodans Posted February 15, 2012 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2012 i was in port two weeks ago when there were five--FIVE--ships docked. i did an excursion with native way tours--the reefs, rays, and rum point excursion. i never felt like it was a crowded port day. even stingray city wasn't bad. rum point was deserted--here's a photo of the beach on a day when five ships were in port... bookbabe Posted February 15, 2012 #6 Share Posted February 15, 2012 Love the Pic, what beach was that? Rum Point. Other side of the island from Seven Mile Beach and the port area.
monicajay Posted February 15, 2012 #7 Share Posted February 15, 2012 You can also just rent a car and drive to Rum Point. We did that and the cost for the car including insurance was about $60.00 add another $5 or so for gas and it made for a really cheap excursion for 4 of us. And yes, Rum Point looks just like those previous pictures.
elbodans Posted February 19, 2012 #8 Share Posted February 19, 2012 Love the Pic, what beach was that? yep, rum point. i arrived by small boat on an excursion through native ways. here's the link to my review of the experience... http://www.suitcasescholar.com/2012/02/19/grand-cayman-native-ways-rays-reefs-and-rum-point-tour-review/
Rare BecciBoo Posted February 23, 2012 #9 Share Posted February 23, 2012 We liked Rum Point, went with Native Ways and Jahn took us to the sting rays and then the reef nearby. Rum Point is pretty, but food is expensive, be prepared to drop some dough. Nice and relaxing day though. Next time, we're just bussing it over to 7 mile to one of the hotels down there. In this pic taken at Sting Ray City, you can see the reef with the breakers in the distance and to the right is Rum Point so it's all in the same bay. drew sailbum Posted February 24, 2012 #10 Share Posted February 24, 2012 You could rent a car and make a quick grocery stop for picnic supplies. Drive out to the Colliers Public Beach all the way on the east tip of the island. There are gazebos and bathrooms. There are no crowds. You'll probably have the whole beach to yourself. There are other public beach spots in Cottage or Cayman Kai which would probably be empty too.
