mycruisedirector Posted March 6, 2012 #26 Share Posted March 6, 2012 You won't regret it! We have been on 26 cruises and have seen incredible sights when we least expected it. I have gone out to the balcony and have seen the northern lights at 2 am in my bathrobe. I have seen a volcanic eruption in Hawaii from my private balcony. I have gotten up in the early morning to see us pull into some of the most beautiful ports in the world. There is nothing more magical.
agru Posted March 6, 2012 #27 Share Posted March 6, 2012 We're cruising to Alaska in June and took an inside cabin. Our reasoning was the amount of daylight/twilight (almost 24 hours) this time of year. We wanted to get good sleep and decided a completely dark room at night was our preference. I'd say, if you have any sleep issues at all, inside is the way to go since any ambient light can disrupt your sleep cycle. (Hubby is a Sleep Specialist.) It also leaves us more money to use while in the different ports! We expect to spend lots of time on deck taking it all in. Cheers!
Happyladi Posted March 6, 2012 #28 Share Posted March 6, 2012 We had a mini suite with a balcony and an inside room for my kids (age 21 and 16). I really liked being able to see outside. When we left Juneau we watched whales from the balcony for over an hour. One Glacier Bay day we did spend most of it on deck. I'm sure either is fine. If you have an inside room you probably will spend much less time there.
Sea Hag Posted March 7, 2012 #29 Share Posted March 7, 2012 I would enjoy an Alaska cruise just as much if I had an inside cabin; my husband wouldn't. Neither one of us think a balcony is ever essential. Everybody's different.
dmaikui Posted March 7, 2012 #30 Share Posted March 7, 2012 Balcony for sure, some days you might not feel like going up on deck with lots of other people. It's nice to bundle up with your lap robe and sit with something hot to drink and watch the beautiful world go by. There is something to see during the daylight hours. We usually see whales everyday on our balcony, looking forward to it. FYI: Holland is not like Princess, as far as being a tierd ship. I don't know why Princess came up with that design, I personally don't like people looking down on my balcony. Holland's balcony's are covered and more private. Sure everyone is out on deck as the ship sails up to the glaciers but as soon as it turns around to leave everyone heads inside. Some of my best memories have been alone on deck at dawn or dusk just enjoying the scenery around the ship. I can eat anytime but the reason I go on the cruise is to be amazed by the magnificent ever changing views of the mountains and glaciers.
