What to do??

We are headed to Grand Cayman in August and are thinking about the Prirate tour through Carnival....

I have read good things about it and think that it would be fun for all.

It is only a 2 hour excursion though... Has anyone done this tour? Is there a beachy area to hangout at before and/or after? Anything else nearby? Places for lunch etc?

Any help would be appreciated. This is our first cruise with our 6 and 8 year old and our first visit to this port :)

TIA!

Your kids will love the tour! :) There is a downtown area surrounding the port with shopping and some waterfront dining places for lunch (try the conch fritters at Rackhams!). A taxi to the beach is not expensive.

If you have time you should look at doing a tour to Stingray city - we've been with Moby Dick twice and loved it (plus much cheaper than the ship tour). They have a smaller, less crowded boat, great service, and kid sized gear. Usually a quick snorkel stop on the reef and then 30-40 minutes at the sand bar petting and feeding the stingrays. Bring your own waterproof camera -- your kids will love it! :D

Good luck! :)

From what I remember you will get off the ship via tender, and then wait til a rep shows up, and you walk as a group out to the area to board the pirate ship.

We didnt' do this excursion, but will admit it looked fun, and the pirate ship did fire it's guns on the cruise ship.:p And the pirates all cheered!

There are lots of shops on the way back, probably something you would enjoy, but not the kids, there is a museum of Grand Cayman which has historical interactive exhibits. We enjoyed it alot. A nice place to get out of the sun and see the history of the island.

We did the Stingray tour. Fun, fun. I liked Grand Cayman, but I think what disappointed me was seeing all the fast food restaurants. I don't know why it dissappointed me. I guess I didn't expect to see it. It's a very rich island.

When we got back to the ship, we sat on our balcony and watched the pirate ship. It looked like a lot of fun. They kept shooting at us and screaming.

If you're dropped off at the dock, there is a bus that runs to the beach...$2.50 pp...easy and cheaper than a taxi!

Probably a stupid question but....

Which beach? Is there a place to buy food etc there? Fun for the kids? (really, give them water and some sand and they'll be happy ;) )
