New to Celebrity...

Ditto on the above. We switched several cruises ago and have not been disappointed. The no smoking alone makes for a more pleasant experience of course if you are a smoker that may not be ok. The variety of drink packages are very nice as well. Happy Cruising

We loved Royal until we sailed Celebrity. Don't get me wrong Royal is great but we love all that Celebrity has to offer. For us it is an overall different experience, more relaxing, more adult oriented. We love the smoking policy.

No smoking on balconies, in the casino, or in the bars!

We are sailing on Celebrity for the first time in September Have sailed on both Royal and Carnival. Is the no smoking in casino, balconies and bars a policy on all of Celebrity ships? If so this is already a plus. What else can we expect?

Yes, it is the policy on all the ships. There are also very few

annoucements. Once a day, about noontime the Captain will

make one and sometimes the CD will follow but that is about it.

There are no annoucements for activities. If you want to know

when something takes place? Read your "Celebrity Today":)

We are new to Celebrity having cruised on Rccl 11 times ,, are there any benefits to sailing on Celebrity?

Celebrity has fresh made Belgium waffles. And, some folks think they taste great. ;)

The best Benefit to sailing Celebrity is....you are sailing! Celebrity is our first Line of choice because we find the overall service to be just a cut above what we enjoy on the other Lines. Celebrity seems to have a bit better passenger/crew ratio, we find the common areas to be well organized to the extent we just don't feel the crowd on board, even on the larger S-Class ships.

I think Celebrity focuses on being a bit layed-back, and lower key. A lot to do, but you pick and choose instead of the crew attempting to entertain you and get you involved. As Lois said, only one announcement per day, no real hard sell (well, all Lines are a business and they 'provide' you a chance to separate you from your money!), just not as much press as on other Lines.

There are a number of other positives, but, to me, that is what brings us back to Celebrity.

enjoy your cruise. If you enjoyed RCCL, I think you'll enjoy Celebrity just fine. And of course, so much of the level of enjoyment is up to us!

One caveat to the announcement thing though (that I found a bit annoying but i can understand the need) is that the 1 announcement was done in 3 or 4 languages, at least it was on my sailing. Not sure if thats a Mediterranean thing or a celebrity all itineraries thing. So while the announcements were infrequent, there was always a reaaaaaally long one due to all the languages lol.

Maybe it was a Mediterranian thing because I cannot remember

the last time it was done in more than one langauage....(English;))

I think the multi-lingual announcements depends upon the passenger demographics. We were on an RCI Panama cruise and there were announcements in 5 languages. We were also on a Celebrity Cape Horn sailing where there were announcements in 4 languages. It's not the particular line, but the make up of the guests.

Regarding avoiding smoke (also "new" to Celebrity I guess, since I haven't been on since the '90s!)

I remember reading on another thread that there was a certain balcony location on the S class ships to avoid because smoke would drift up from some location where people are allowed to smoke outside. Can someone please remind me what this area is?

Likely booking an S class ship later in the month so I want to make sure I don't wind up in that location! Thanks in advance.

A glass of bubbly upon boarding on day of sailing, cool towels when coming back from shore, free pastries and finger sandwiches at the coffee bar, great service with a smile and hello, great bathrooms. Try it, Mikey loves it.

Oh, yes, this is my favorite, Room Service. You can order a full hot breakfast as well as anything on the dining room menu for lunch or dinner during open hours. Try that Princess, CCL, RCL, NCL!

I didn't know you couldn't get room service on those other lines. Even more reasons to love celebrity.:D

They are better than RCI Diamond. Is that enough? If not, check out the Captain's Club on the Celebrity web site.

We have never sailed celebrity and are diamond members with RC. We are thinking of celebrity so I went to their website like you recommended and it looks like we have to register to get info about the Captains Club. Briefly can someone tell us the benefits?

Here's what is on the web site.

Elite Member Benefits* (After 10 earned tier credits)**

  • Exclusive Captain's Club Celebration Event
  • Complimentary pressing of 2 garment items
  • One complimentary bag of laundry (wash, dry, fold) on every sailing‡
  • One standard bag of laundry (wash, dry, fold) at a discounted price of $20 on all Celebrity cruises of 12 nights or longer
  • Complimentary dry cleaning of 1 garment item
  • Complimentary 90 minute Internet package (can be applied towards a larger Internet package; some restrictions apply)
  • Access to the Captain's Club Lounge for coffeehouse style breakfast and evening social hour (open daily except embarkation and the evening of the Senior Officers' Cocktail Party)
  • Complimentary access to Persian Garden (on one port day of your choice, while the ship is in port)
  • Priority embarkation while boarding the ship (where available)
  • Invitation to a complimentary wine seminar event
  • Priority status on the shore excursion waitlist
  • Invitation to the exclusive Senior Officer's Cocktail Party
  • Access to the private shipboard departure lounge with continental breakfast during disembarkation
  • Priority tender service status
  • Priority waitlist status for dining room seating
  • Invitation to attend the Elegant Tea Service event
  • Complimentary use of the Loyalty Desk member service center between cruises
  • Complimentary access to the onboard Loyalty Host during your cruise
  • A premium onboard discount booklet filled with special offers during each cruise
  • Complimentary upgrade from ChoiceAir® to ChoiceAir Plus when booking travel for your cruise
  • Pre-sailing specialty restaurant reservations available before your cruise
  • Annual member Reunion Cruise with additional member events
  • One category upgrade prior to sailing (when available)
  • Complimentary online Captain's Club newsletter with the latest program news and information
  • Ability to enroll in Royal Caribbean's Crown & Anchor Society Diamond Level

First, call Captain's Club 1(800)760-0654 and tell them you are Crown & Anchor. They will give you a Captain's Club number. Write it down and keep it safe as they do not issue cards.

When you book your cruise, give the TA or Celebrity rep your number and ask to be upgraded one level within the category. For example if you book a 2B veranda, you will get a free upgrade to a 1A veranda. Not as worthwhile as the the amount saved with RCI on balcony or higher, but nice, anyway. Better upgrade when booking on board.

The Elite cocktail hour is very nice. Real drinks and you can order from a very extensive list. Hot and cold snackies, too. Nice coupons for 90 minutes EACH of free Internet, free laundry, dry cleaning and pressing and some wine discounts and casino coupons. A fresh flower in your cabin. Priority tender tickets are nice, too. The Captain's Club officer who will act like a concierge for you. We found out too late that the one on our Infinity sailing in January would have gotten us a car rental.

What is not better about Elite is the breakfast. X has a continental breakfast with free espresso based coffees. Yo can't get a hot breakfast and your fancy coffee in the same place. I like RCI's Diamond breakfast better for that reason.

Also, Celebrity charges your sea pass daily for gratuities. No envelopes for gratuities at the end of the cruise, so you have to ask for envelopes from the guest relations desk if you want to give more than the daily amount charged to your sea pass. We always do.
