eastender Posted April 18, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 18, 2012 They were certainly missing from the Jewel April 9th cruise, tooooooo expensive the head waiter said! Little tiny scallops were served in the escargot dishes instead, just didn't do it for me. More cutbacks?
DonnaK Posted April 18, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 18, 2012 It seems that there is an international shortage of escargot at the moment. All the major cruiselines have taken it off the menu (presumably temporarily until the shortage lifts)

All the major cruiselines have taken it off the menu (presumably temporarily until the shortage lifts) If you google "escargot shortage" or "escargot crisis" you will discover that this is a problem affecting not only cruise ships but land-based restaurants as well. cdamion Posted April 19, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 19, 2012 Perhaps once it warms up we can start selling the cruise lines snails from our yards?
Cruisin Dave Posted April 19, 2012 #6 Share Posted April 19, 2012 There is a drought in Indonesia where most of the Escargot come from. There is no time frame for when they will return to the table.

I love scallops of all sizes and want to make sure I dont miss this dish! I will miss my escargot though :(

joe6666 Posted April 19, 2012 #11 Share Posted April 19, 2012 So the cruise line doesn’t have to buy escargot for about a thousand people because there is a worldwide shortage. A windfall for the cruise line.
njmomof2 Posted April 19, 2012 #12 Share Posted April 19, 2012 Interesting you ask this. When we returned home from our Freedom cruise (4/1-4/8) I realized that I didn't have the escargot and I always order it. I asked both kids and they don't remember seeing it on the menu, as they know I love it. I was fine and had plenty to enjoy, but I never get escargot unless we're cruising so I did miss it. Cru1s1ng2009 Posted April 19, 2012 #13 Share Posted April 19, 2012 We just got off enchantment and DD ordered 2 of them. How a 10 year old could eat them is beyond me. Anyways, they were there.
CruiseDreaming Posted April 19, 2012 #14 Share Posted April 19, 2012 Our April 1st Mariner cruise was also sadly lacking in escargot. My sister was so disappointed, my husband too. My sister also mentioned on her comment card at the end and much she had missed them. Kerrie :)
