Tipping Currency

We are cruising out of Sydney on HAL Volendam later in the year, up through Indonesia to Singapore. As first time cruisers we have read a lot about tipping and understand the protocols however we are unsure what currency to have our 'addtional tipping' cash in. Australian, Indonesian, American dollars? We would like to have the best solution for the staff we are tipping.

If you are going to give extra tips ..not on your shipboard account I would give some local currency unless the crew have to turn in any extra they receive then use USD if you have them

You can tip using either Australian or US money .

The front desk can exchange the money for the drew members.

proper ettiquette for tipping is to use the local currency of where ever you are. If the ship uses US dollars as the medium of exchange than its US dollars because that is the local medium. off the ship tipping should be in local currency. Crew live in close quarters and whether they have to turn the tips in or not, most crew turn everything in anyway so as to not keep large amounts of cash in the room. While they can exchange other currencies, ships are notorious for poor exchange rates even for the crew.
