auburn77 Posted May 8, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 8, 2012 We're new to Hal and will be sailing Alaska on the Volendam. We're going on a 7 day tour before sailing and will need to wash clothes soon after boarding. Is there an unlimited laundry package available? Mary Ellen Posted May 8, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 8, 2012 That is available on all of HAL's fleet. The Volendam also has laundry rooms for passenger use, should you decide you don't want to wait the day or so for your laundry to be returned. PeaceLoveCruise Posted May 8, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 8, 2012 Are there self service laundry rooms on all of Hal's fleet? I'm curious about the Westerdam.
sail7seas Posted May 8, 2012 #4 Share Posted May 8, 2012 There are self-service laundries on Volendam but not on Westerdam. The so-called "S" and "R" class ships have self-service laundries but the Vista and Signature Class ships do not have them. I think Prinsendam also has self-service laundries. sail7seas Posted May 8, 2012 #5 Share Posted May 8, 2012 A reminder of Classes of HAL ships: "S" Class ships are: Statendam Maasdam Ryndam Veendam "R" Class ships are: Rotterdam Amsterdam Voldendam Zaandam Vista Ships are: Zuiderdam Oosterdam Westerdam Noordam Signature Class Ships are: Eurodam Nieuw Amsterdam Prinsendam is 'unto' herself with no sisters in the Fleet. :)
LDVinNC Posted May 8, 2012 #6 Share Posted May 8, 2012 We were on the Ryndam a few weeks ago and used the unlimited laundry package. It was $7/day and most of the time we had the clean laundry back the same day. We sent stuff out every day. It was great.
Rare rafinmd Posted May 8, 2012 #7 Share Posted May 8, 2012 I think Prinsendam also has self-service laundries. What's different about the Prinsendam is the laundries are free (or should I say included in the fare). Despite the free service, I never had trouble finding a free (as in available for my use) machine. Roy
sail7seas Posted May 8, 2012 #8 Share Posted May 8, 2012 That's Great to read about Prinsendam ! :)
lizzies_mom Posted May 8, 2012 #9 Share Posted May 8, 2012 We were on the Prinsendam and the self serve laundries were closed nearly 2/3 of the cruise due to illness (code red). During this time, HAL offered half price on the stuffed laundry bag.
PeaceLoveCruise Posted May 8, 2012 #10 Share Posted May 8, 2012 Thank you, sail! I appreciate the info! :D
Krazy Kruizers Posted May 8, 2012 #11 Share Posted May 8, 2012 That is very true about any ship that has the self service laundries -- they are usually closed when the ship is in Code Red.
sail7seas Posted May 8, 2012 #12 Share Posted May 8, 2012 If you plan to use self-service laundry, you may wish to bring your own dryer sheets. They are not supplied by the ships.
Typhoon1 Posted May 8, 2012 #13 Share Posted May 8, 2012 Don't waste your precious time onboard doing laundry. Get the unlimited laundry package. $7.00 per day is the best bargain you will find during your trip.
DeepWaterMariner Posted May 9, 2012 #14 Share Posted May 9, 2012 On our last cruise on Noordam we didn't have the complimentary laundry that we had in the past when we were in Deluxe Veranda Suites but were very satisfied with the $20 a bag deal. Its amazing how much we could stuff in one of those little bags.
