Packing List?? (5 day cruise)

Hi everyone!

I'm a beginning cruiser and have shopped and bought plenty of cute things for the cruise. I've read the importance of packing light. I get that, but how light?

For you guys who have cruised and cruised, how much of what do you pack? Bathing suits? Shorts? Dresses? Pants? Shoes?

Some of you might be OCD (like me) and have a spread sheet or something you've created. I'd love to see it if you don't mind emailing me: duncmelsmom@bellsouth.net.

Thank you!!

I do my cruises now in a carry on. If I drive, I also bring a backpack.

I bring enough underwear, a tee shirt for each day, shorts, a couple of black pants, a dress and toiletries.

Im not paying to check a bag when I fly. Last time Spirit smashed my bag.

A list .. really?? I have 3 toiletries I dont keep packed in my suitcase, and do those last minute because I dont have extras. Other than having to pull out liquids when I fly .. I keep toiletries packed all the time in case I hit a last minute deal. Throw in some clothes the night before and Im off.

A list .. on a spread sheet .. oh my.

I have cruised twice...both times with the entire family. I have used lists....yes on a spreadsheet....both times. I didn't depend on it as much the second time, and when I cruise for the third time next year, with just my husband and me, I probably won't need it at all. I agree with packing light, but honestly, it is all about preference. If you are flying, you will want to pack lighter. We drive to the port and I like to bring several of the cute things I have so I have options. I am a planner/organizer by nature, so I LOVE making lists and spreadsheets for stuff. Maybe when I have quite a few cruises under my belt, I can pack in my sleep as well, but until then, I will have lists and spreadsheets. If you would like a copy of the one I use, I will be happy to post it, just let me know. When we go on our next cruise, I am goint to be all about relaxing, so we will probably pack pretty light. But, when we take the kids, I pack everything but the kitchen sink so I don't have to spend my vacation trying to track down things the kids might need.

We travel by car so do not have to worry about luggage fees. I take whatever and however much I want. Never know what I might want to wear at any given time. I like having options.

What a great and comprehensive packing list! Thanks for posting. What are "cubes"?

Our itinerary is 5 days from NOLA to Progreso and Cozumel in JULY (HOT). I have cute dresses, many bathing suits, many shorts, shirts, tanks, and MANY shoes, but I will NOT bring them all. I want a variety, but don't want so much luggage that we're handicapped with getting on and off the boat.

We are driving from ATL to NOLA. I'm thinking one of us (hubby or me) brings the garment bag/suitcase and one brings our large suitcase. We can also each carry a small bag (plus purse).

Any other ideas? Thanks all!!

Mine are from Eagle Creek.

You might also consider coordinating your clothing where everything matches. Fewer shoes & sets of jewelry required, plus less planning.

After reading all of the wonderful reviews on amazon, I just had to get some. There were a set of 3 large ones on ebay for $27 and free shipping. I think that's a great idea!! We camp in a camper quite a bit, so these will really come in handy!

Thanks again!! I love organization too! :)

This may seem like a lot, but everything on the top can fit into a backpack and I also put my over the door shoe organizer in the backpack, too.

I have ADHD. If it's not a list, it doesn't make the trip. Period.

I don't know how young firefly333 is. BK (before kids) I winged everything and had a blast. Now that my time is precious and/or I'm older and losing my thought processes, I need lists!!

If firefly333 can pack like that with kids and in her 40's or older, kudos to her!! I wish I could. I just know that if I forgot something, I would pout a tad. Pouting isn't allowed on this trip!!

I make lists-but first I make a list of the days

embarkation

sea day

pregresso

cozumel

sea day

dismebark day

I wear my heaviest stuff like jeans and sneakers on the embarkation day, that way I'm not lugging them and no one else has to either.

Sea day, casual but the first night is formal night. so formal dress-maybe a bathing suit.

Progresso-are you beach or ruins? If ruins, there are those jeans and sneakers again. If beach, something easy to change in and out of from the next bathing suit, cause yesterday's wont be dry, and I hate putting on a wet suit. A dress for dinner.

Cozumel-beach or shopping in town. Beach? well again something easy to change in and out of, you don't want heavy, something ight it's hot there. Shopping, comfortable shoes or sandals, appropriate clothes.

Sea Day, back to cruise clothing, for me (older) usually a skirt and shirt.

Are you doing the Behind the Fun tour? Back to those sneakers, no open toed shoes.

Disembark-are you driving home or staying in town for a few days? If going home, something comfortable to wear for the rest of the day.

I wear shirts during the day, dresses at night, good walking shoes for ports. As far as dress shoes, not really high heels, the floors are interesting to say the least.:o

I have to have a list. I am packing for 4

People--2 of which are kids. One of my kids takes multiple medications, has food allergies so we bring snacks on board, has a lovey for nighttime. I am so paranoid that I'm going to forget something.

Maybe we are the only people to freeze on cruise ships... I need a wrap and a sweater or sweatshirt.

I wear my hoody on the plane and take pashminas with me as shawls. They fold to almost nothing.
