MSC is a very "odd" Italian line but they have some totally super solo rates on their Caribbean sailings , last minute deals

 

NCL is the only line that seems to cater to solos and singles with the Epic studios and studio "lounge" ...they have a singles meet there every night and a dedicated host/hostess for solos and singles

 

As the purveyor of the misinformation I apologize. It was my understanding that solo passengers paid more for the studio and that this was set at 150%. Glad I was wrong.

Guess you could say the same about non drinkers,picture buyers,shoppers, casino,bingo,etc? I generally have a s&s bill that exceeds my cabin cost.

 

What's the difference if they give away the cruise cheap at the last minute at 200 percent then charge a solo 150%. Are you subsidizing me when you paid twice as much then what I paid 2 weeks prior to the cruise? See it hapen all the time.

And from pictures I've seen you have to crawl across the bed as no floor space at all.

 

I can certainly understand how some of the pictures of the EPIC studio cabins appear to offer limited floor space (and it definitely isn't abundant) . . . but never once did I have a desire, or need, to cross over the bed to get around the cabin. It's definitely a manageable arrangement in these accomodations.

I always book early saver so even if I book it a year out an you book it two weeks out, we still pay the same price

The fewer bodies in the cabins, the fewer bodies there are to spend money or not spend money. Instead of subsidizing singles, Carnival subsidizes cabins, lowering the cost of the cabin for 2 people or for 1. 2 people have twice the opportunity to spend money.

 

This is nothing new, why all the whining now?

Lets try common sense - when you book a hotel room do you pay less.....You are using the cabin; pay the same price as everyone else to use the cabin.

 

Now lets use economics - if there is a cabin with only one person in it; the chances are you will spend less (less alcohol, less money spent in casino, less money in steakhouse etc). The cruise lines make the majority of money on the extras ;) Less people = less money.

 

I have cruised solo; I have cruised with DH and I have cruised with family. Never did I think my cabin should have been less because I only had one person in it.

I've Just Returned, From The 5-05-12 Sailing On Carnivial Freedom!!! I Had A Great Time, But I Will NOT Be Sailing Carnivial In The Near Future!!!

 

I Sail Solo, And Carnivial Got Rid Of The Solo Supplement, And No Matter How Much Fun I Have... I Can't See Myself Paying A 200% Supplement To Sail Carnivial:eek:!!!

 

So Royal Caribbean, Princess, Norwegian, Look Out.. Here I Come!!!:p

You say others post misinformation .. then you post a blanket statement that Royal is not cheaper than Carnival .. not ever?? wow, you need to price more cruises. I can tell you for sure .. sometimes they are cheaper.

 

Its never safe to generalize without stating this is just a opinion, or you are very biased, and believe this to be always true, even if most of us know its not true.

 

I can tell you for sure and certain .. some times RCL is cheaper than Carnival. No, not always .. sometimes.

All the other lines have deals less than 200% quite often. I can find cheaper deals on other lines any day of the week that are less than 200%.

NCL is the ONLY line that has dedicated solo cabins with no upcharge but they are not cheap to begin with.

 

 

Like the 'idea' that Carnival is always cheap, the idea that NCL is always not cheap is very false.

It all depends on WHEN you book.

I book my cruises early on and they are always at a great rate...no matter what line. I was just looking at my 11 day southern caribbean cruise for Feb 2013 on NCL and we are paying $114 per person/per day for a mid ship balcony cabin, PLUS we will have $450 in OBC.

 

I don't find that expensive....

The solo studio cabins on Epic and Breakway with no single supplement are still more expensive than a solo 1A cabin @ 200% on Carnival. Even moreso if Early Saver is used.

The number varies from 5 on Spirit class ships to over a dozen on on other ships. 4a, PT and IS gtys are often cheaper on Carnival than the Studio cabins.

I'll have to compare to see....How about the 1A's on the Dream or Magic?...since they are the two newest ships that would be more compareable to Epic/Breakaway.

Having sailed both lines, IF I were solo and IF there wasn't a drastic difference, the choice would still be easy to choose the Epic or Breakaway. And I still think much of what you pay is determined on when you book.
