Buying bottomless bubbles card after ship sails?

I can't seem to find where I read this on CC but I remember reading a post saying something about waiting till the ship sails to purchase the bottomless bubbles card.. Is this because tax will be charged if we purchased it while ship is still docked in Port Everglades ?

Also, are there special soda cups we can purchase too that can be filled with the soda if we get the bb card ?

I notice the poster (picture) says that the tumbler is $4.95 (I can't read the small print - anyone know what that says?). Is that with the purchase of the unlimited bubbles card, plus 15% gratuity, what? I really like those and think that $4.95 isn't a bad price and would like to get two or three of those for use around the ship (not for soda, only my husband gets the card - but it would be great to use for water, tea, lemonade).

Its $4.50 per day for children -- $6.95 per day for adults.

Thanks ... I already knew the price of the bottomless bubbles card - I was asking about the $4.95 tumbler that is mentioned on the poster (and on the table display).

I got one of the tumblers on our last cruise. The cup was fairly insulated and kept iced drinks cold for a while. There is a gripper base on the bottom. It is NOT dishwasher safe. The cup came in really handy on the ship and I still use it at work 6 months later. I'd say mine was well worth the $5 spent. :)

Where do you buy Bottomless Bubbles after the first day, Guest Services? When I cruised back in January there was a table (and a longish line leading to it) set up on the Lido, but it was gone by that evening. I think I'd like to save a bit of money and get it on Day 2. :)

BTW, the insulated drink cup on CCL is not required and is basically a $5 souvenir. I mention this because it's different from RCCL, where the insulated cup is included in the price and actually activates the fountain soda machine on the pool deck (you can't use the machine without having the cup, but you can also get free sodas from any bar, in the MDR, etc., like on Carnival).

I really wish CCL would let you purchase Bottomless Bubbles in advance on their website like RCCL does: it's easier, it involves one less line to wait in, and your sailing card is pre-embossed with a free-soda symbol instead of a small sticker like CCL does. (I think it was also gratuity-free.)

Agreed last year on the Allure of the Seas the cup came with the purchase and it is a nice one! You can purchase this ahead of time by calling the Bon Voyage Department number, I did this for my son, it was easy!

Can you read me now? :D The tumbler purchase is with purchase of the package. Similar or the same tumblers are available in the gift shops but at full price.

I was on the Conquest this past March and you can buy them without having the package. You got $1 off if you had the BB package. Even with the tumbler you still had to show your card with the sticker to get it filled with a soft drink without paying.

Any bar and do it and out the sticker on your card. Just tell them what you want. As far as the tumbler goes that may just be a lido or first day thing. Im not sure.

Good to know. They do look like nice tumblers.

The automated fountain soda machines are only on two of the RCCL ships at this time, the Majesty and the Freedom of the Seas. The cups have a computer chip embedded in them that activates the machines. The Majesty will soon be retrofitted with the new Coca-Cola Freestyle machine that will be sea worthy and if successful, will be rolled out into the rest of the fleet. Either of these machines will make it worthwhile to have the unlimited soda package on RCCL, IMHO, because they both include Coke Zero, which you can't get through the fountain guns at the bars on all of the other RCCL ships. But CCL cruisers can drink all the Coke Zero they want because it is included, as well as Sprite Zero and unlimited juice, which RCCL does not include in their package. Sprite Zero mixed with pineapple juice makes a very refreshing drink.....even more so if a little rum is added. ;)

Trying to decide if the soda card is worth it. What are the soda prices w/o card and what is the child age? thanks

A single can of soda will run you about $2.25 + 15% gratuity. if you plan to drink more than 3 sodas a day then it is worth the purchase. Also I beleive the child age is 17 and under. I know My Brother was 14 or 15 when they went with us and he was charged at the child rate.

They were $1.95 for a can two weeks ago so it was $2.25 with the gratuity included.

We wait until we are at sea. We know when the time is, as that is when the casino opens. We do it to save the tax we would be charged. I just walk up to the bar and get 3, one for me, and two for our boys.

Anybody who is assuming this....be careful, and it is probably dependable on where you are sailing out of....I was surprised to notice in November, when buying a drink at the casino bar (and the casino was open) that we were charged tax on those drinks. Apparently because you are still in the Mississippi River you are in LA so state tax is charged. We didn't buy anything after about midnight, but were charged tax all night, didn't buy anything from the shop so not sure what happened with cigarettes etc. Something to be aware of at least coming out of NOLA.

To avoid being charged taxes on all of your purchases at the bar, including the bottomless bubbles package, you need to wait until the ship enters international waters, not just as soon as it leaves port.

So the Carnival soda card includes juices too? That just might make it worth it for us. What juices are readily available on board (we will be on the Dream)?

Yes it covers any kind of juice you want ,any time

The basic juices that any bar would have....orange, grapefruit, pineapple, tomato.

If you purchase it ahead of time, just like when you purchase on board before hitting international waters, you'll pay sales tax, in this case, 6%. The adult rate is 6.00 per day + 0.90 grat x 8 days = 55.20 x 2 people = 110.40. The 6.62 that went to the state of Florida could go towards a 16 oz aluminum bottle on board. :)
