Norwegian strike spreads

Recommended Posts

When they say the strike was called off, does that mean they resolved their differences or just delayed the problem till later? Is this going to be a yearly problem? Any insights? We're hoping to book a June 2013 fjord trip but this has made me nervous.

Strikes happen all over the world, at all different times. No offence, but it's pretty silly to be worried about this for a 2013 cruise that you haven't even booked yet.

I would agree except if this a yearly contract that expires in early June then it would seem prudent to book a July cruise to be on the safe side.

Don't worry. Even in Europe, most collective bargaining agreements are for four years, and it's highly unlikely they would agree to a new agreement, only to strike again in less than a year.

Just back from the Rotterdam. We stopped in Sandefjord instead of Oslo, but HAL worked quickly to arrange an Olso highlights excursion that included the view from the ski jump museum, Vigeland Park, an hour down town, and the Viking Ship museum. It was hurried, but at least we got to see some of Oslo.

Our other port times were changed and we docked everywhere, rather than tendering. It was a great trip, but we just had to be flexible and not worry about longer or shorter times in port.

Glad to hear that the strike is ending. In every port except Flam, we saw other workers in their orange strike vests. Here are some in Stavanger:

Glad the strike got settled and that your cruise worked out reasonably well under the challenging circumstances. Good to see the picture you posted. The strikes did involve more than just the port/harbor pilots.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio
