Penthouse/suite question

Unknotted

Recommended Posts

I am totally confused. I just booked a 2 BR suite on the Pearl and was told that it only includes butler and concierge and that it does not include breakfast and lunch at cagneys or alot of the other suite perks and that I would have to book the 2BR haven suite to get those perks. Guess it depends on who you talk to. Not sure what to believe at this point.

That is incorrect information. Who did you book with? Obviously someone who doesn't know NCL. OR they may want you to book the Haven so they will get a bigger commission.

Your 2 bedroom suite comes with all the perks except Haven access and free booze. You get breakfast and lunch in Cagneys.

We had a 2 bedroom suite on the Star and an Aft Penthouse on the Jewel. Both came with all the Suite Perks including breakfast and lunch at Cagney's. The only perks they did not include was liquior in cabin, access to the Haven, and reserved seats in the Theater.

Breakfast and Lunch in Cagneys is not mentioned for EITHER the Haven Suites or Non Haven Suites on the NCL website - all of the other perks are there however - along with the disclaimer that the perks vary from ship to ship. That said my Welcome booklet did mention the breakfast and lunch at Cagneys - yes the Welcome books are customized for your cabin type.

Hi Martha, I have been in six "SC" Suites and they ALWAYS get:

Priority Boarding

Butler

Champagne in your cabin the day you board

A really neat Coffee machine

Breakfast and Lunch at Cagneys

Canapes and Sweets in the evenings in your cabin

Priority Disembarkation on the last day

We LOVE NCL and their "Perks" for Suites!

That is WHY we keep going back to NCL.

Over the years things have been dropped and other things added to the "Perk List".

As long as they keep the Priority Boarding and Breakfast and Lunch at Cagneys, we are Happy Campers. :D :D

OK, we're booked in an aft penthouse (SF), and I double checked one more time before booking. We'll get butler and concierge, sparkling wine, Cagneys for breakfast and lunch, treats, bottled water, fruit, 24 hour full room service menu, priority boarding/tender/debarkation/etc and all other perks except access to the Haven and free liquor. He said this is the first level category that gets all the perks. I asked if we could buy liquor by the bottle after we get on the ship and he said no, we'll have to order it through BV before the cruise.

So they ya have it. Thanks for all the help and opinions.

One thing I think they got incorrect was the water. We were just in an aft penthouse suite and it did not include bottle water. The OS and above does include the bottled water. We could purchase it and ask our butler to re-stock as needed but it was not complimentary. That could have changed though.

Either way, the suites are still awesome. It is so cool on embarkation day getting escorted to Cagney's for a nice relaxing lunch. That is my favorite suite perk. Have a great time!

I think you need to be careful about saying that you "will be taken aboard by your Butler". I have stayed in many suites on NCL and have never been taken aboard by the butler. I think it depends upon the ship and the availability of the butler at the time of your boarding. The boarding by your butler is never mentioned in any list of the official NCL suite amenities.

The European version of the new brochure has this information:

"Escort to your Suite on embarkation day."

If someone really need an escort, I'm sure they will get it since it's mentioned as a suiteperk.

When we had a suite on the Jade we were escorted to our cabin but not by our butler. (We saw her in a dining room later so she was a waitress.) On the Epic we weren't escorted, just directed to the Epic Club.

You don't get Champagne in the cheaper suites but you get a bottle of sparkling wine.

We are currently debating if we will pay the upcharge to upgrade into a penthouse suite on the jewel. It is quite an increase due to the fact we are on the 12 night southern caribbean in January. First of all it's $2,550 more to upgrade from a mini suite.... so to justify it, i'm trying to really understand the perks. I totally understand the Cagneys for breakfast and lunch is included. To my husband and son this is a huge perk... to me it means nothing. I am a vegetarian and a steakhouse is just not appealing to me, besides that I'm allergic to sea food. (Great, I know.) I don't drink alcohol so the free wine doesn't matter to me. But what I really want to know is what are the other perks???? There is so much mixed info I am super confused.

Honestly a BIGGIE for us would be if it really included UNLIMITED soda, so is this a perk or not? Is there free unlimited bottled water included?

I know the treats every night will be a huge bonus, but what else???

And also what do you tip the butler?

The last time we had a Suite was in 2008 on Disney Cruise Line. the perks were alright (by NO means worth the money we paid though) Anyways, the Buttler and Concierge was NOT allowed to except tips, but again we never used the concierge... I prebook all my own stuff and enjoy booking everything, the buttler we never asked him for anything, we saw him 1 time per day when he said hello and asked if we needed anything.....but we never did. He brought treats every night also but we never saw him.

Anything you can help me with, is much appreciated....

I guess overall, would the penthouse be worth it for us????

Thank you!!!

You will NOT get included unlimited soda or bottled water.

If you are not really interested in the breakfast and lunch at Cagney's, I don't think that the extra cost is worth it.

If you don't ask for anything, you don't have to tip the butler or the concierge.

Only you can decide if it's worth it for you. I personally feel that if I wasn't drinking alcohol and didn't ate meat, I shouldn't be very interested in a cruise anyway.

Thank you for your response and info. It seems very confusing as some people have claimed they got soda and bottled water, the NCL website under freestyle accomodations list soda and water included, but I know what people actually get in their suite varies. Anyways, thank you again for your response. For the record i do not think you shouldn't cruise unless you drink or eat meat.... you're last remark was a bit confusing. I had some amazing vegetarian meals onboard the Star last September, they have always been very accomodating to me on NCL with veggie meals. Again, my husband and son wouldn't cruise either if they couldn't eat meat. That's why we choose NCL.... something for everyone. We cruise for value, and to see the world as a family....but to each their own.

In the most expensive suites soda and water is included. (The Penthouse doesn't have unlimited soda and water included.)

I'm not saying that you shouldn't cruise if you don't eat meat or drink alcohol, I'm just saying that people are different and cruise for different reasons and because of that noone can really know if it's worth it to you to pay the extra money for a suite. For us the meals are very important and even if they have good vegetarian meals the options are, of course, more for those who eat meat. Our predinner martini, wine to dinner, a glass of Champagne during the night are important things for us during a cruise so without that, we should probably not cruise.

Still confusing?

O.k. now it makes better sense. Thank you for the info. I did look at a cagneys menu, and you are correct it is primarily for meat eaters with only one veggie option. So it isn't worth it to me. I think for this cruise since it is 12 nights in January we will just stick to our mini suite. Maybe we will try a suite on a shorter cruise another time. Thank you again for your feedback.

One thing for you to consider is that if you have a suite, your options during lunch will increase because they will do what they can to make you happy at Cagney's. They might have only one veggie option on the menu but if you ask, they can most likely prepare almost anything for you! If you are happy with the veggie options in the buffé and in the main dining rooms, Cagney's as a suiteperk might not be worth it for you. If you think that your options are limited in the other restaurants, Cagney's might make your cruise much better! (I'm talking about the lunch, during dinner I guess that Cagney's isn't really for you!)

With the latest sales I've been able to upgrade from In/Outside to Penthouse on 2 cruises. Reading here it sounds very exciting. Just have to ask what the hidden costs are besides extra tips at the end of the cruise? I don't want any surprises since this is my first time in a cabin like this. Thanks!

According to some suite snobs ;), the hidden costs are that you will never sail inside/outside or balcony again.

(real answer - no hidden costs. You are already aware your concierge and butler are not included in the DSC)

Nevermind ... it seems this topic has been argued and argued quite a lot on here.. I have the jist of it!
