"Select" Dining now is Preselected

Seems like what used to be "Select" Dining on Celebrity has morphed from the ability to go to the dining room when you wanted to do so, to having many passengers "select" on-line and reserve for the entire voyage. 6 PM too early? 8:30 too late? No problem! You can create dining time, make reservations and you've got it! Except the rest of the passengers who naively think that the old rules applied. On our last Celebrity cruise (Equinox TA from Rome, November 28,2011, it was a nightmare scenario. Those of us without prearranged reservations lined up in the "breadline" that extended as far back as the furthest end of the casino frequently. Waiting for upwards to an hour to be seated. I thought that this was an aberration until I discussed this with Celebrity upon our return to the US. I was told that this was how Celebrity now envisioned "Select" dining and that passengers were encouraged to make reservations on-line for every evening. This option once offered freedom on a daily basis. Anyone else as angry as I am?
