Anyone use a Monocular?

I'm going to Alaska in a couple of months. And I figured it's a good as time as any to get a decent pair of binoculars. I like things that are a little different. And I've used one before bird watching. Just seeing if anyone has used one. Did you like it. And do you think it would work well for off the boat watching.

I have seen people on tours using monoculars. They certainly are smaller and less expensive than binocs.

 

I tried them once and could not get used to them.

It's been a long time since I have seen anyone using a monocular.

 

JMO -- I prefer binoculars.

I always travel with a monocular and have done so for decades. Mine are not cheap (I have 2). Mine are small and light and each has a neck strap. I keep one in my camera case or in a pocket if going around with no bag.

 

I find them very handy for spotting wildlife and for the way ahead on trails.

I have a monoc. I like it, but it doesn't have that 3-D effect like binoculars.

For general viewing of landscape scenery like Alaska, my preference would be binoculars.
