RCI vs X

Recommended Posts

Agreed! After many RC cruises, we sailed on our first Celebrity last year (Solstice) and loved it! We are sailing Solstice again next year, as well as her sister, Reflection.

We didn't find that to be the case at all!

Probably friendly isn't the best word which is why I put it in quotes. I'm not trying to imply that it's unfriendly. I guess I go back to more sophisticated or polished or professional. But not the towel animal building type of service. (I can't really think of a word to define it). I prefer the service on Celebrity to pretty much any line, which is why I've been Elite on =X= for a while now; I haven't been on Azamara or Oceania etc so i can't speak to ALL lines. I don't know if I'm having senioritis or if it's just an intangible difference, and that's why I can't come up with the exact word.

I agree with most of your comments' date=' and those posted previously by everyone. The one with which we diverge is the kids...IMHO, all things being equal, Royal has Celebrity generally beat on the overall amenities that appeal to kids. You cannot go wrong with either, truthfully. Neither has ever disappointed.[/quote']

Amenities probably since you have the ice skating, golf and flow rider on some RCL ships. Facilities within the club itself I've found are comparable if not better on Celebrity imo.

As for the program though, in my (and my children’s!) experience Celebrity’s is better as it’s more refined. Slime the co-ordinator wasn’t a part of Celebrity’s program as against RCL’s and the activities and performances were to a higher standard.

Oh my. Eclipse vs Vision?? I've been on both - my first cruise was on the Vision and I love her, but book the Eclipse.;) I have found my new love, and it is Celebrity's Solstice class. I love everything about them, and I am an activity/late night person. We rocked that nightclub, on all 3 Celebrity cruises I've been on! :p The food is better, the service great (I have noticed it's more reserved, but not all the time), few kids, lovely smoking policy, rooms are lovely - I don't really have a single complaint. I do still like Royal, but given a choice like you have, I'd go with Celebrity in a heartbeat. :)

Go with X...we find the atmosphere on X much nicer than RCI..pax seem to be a bit more cognizant of others than they are on RCI. Not to say that chairhogs don't sail X..there just seems to be less of them.;)

We've found the crew on X to be friendly and very helpful. We enjoy the food more on X...and despite what some have said there is a "nightlife" on X.:)

Depending on the cruise you probably will see less kids...not saying that X doesn't appeal to kids just that we have found less kids on that line vs RCI.:)

Thank you! I have been telling people that there is nightlife on X, too!! They poke their heads into the nightclub at 10:00 pm, and assume that it's dead. Well, it doesn't get going until after midnight, HELLO!! Now, not every night is as busy as others (early morning ports always affects the late night crowd), but I have had dead nightclubs on Royal, too. It all depends on what is happening the next day. Love X!:D

And as I mentioned, in my experience the Martini bar seems to be the place to go at night, as well as the casino and the casino bar. I admit, often the disco is very quiet, but if you want to hang out and socialize into the wee hours, there are places that are usually pretty busy on Celebrity. And the disco may be hopping but I've possibly not checked on the right nights. Too busy at the other venues.

Go with Celebrity. Extra days alone almost makes it worthwhile, but the Solstice ships for sure!

I love Celebrity's Martini bars. RCI just does not have anything to compare to it. Nor do they have martini's that can rival those on X. I can't figure out why.

I can't make up my mind between a 14 night with Celebrity and an 11 night with RCI. The ports are very similar, and cost is roughly the same. I guess I'm afraid of X since I've never sailed with them before. Any thoughts?

After 14 cruises on RCI and X (the last 6 on X) we find that either is great. We chose

X for the service and passengers. RCI mostly for itinerary lately. Both are great lines

and great ships. We like the medium sized ships more so than the mega ones Allure, Oasis

Silhouette, Solstice. Just way too many people/crowds.

Last 2 cruises were X Solstice 2011 and Silhouette 4/12. Sailing on RCI Serenade in

Oct 12 (can't wait).

Enjoy either one.

I do think after the cruise if you add everthing up "X" will cost more.
Really must disagree, we are elite on Celebrity and Diamond + on RCI and have noticed no difference except for the balcony discount.

All the other pluses mentioned we agree with. Love the smoking policy that is enforced and the food is far superior.Haven't seen red baseball caps and a man wearing an orange t-shirt that said I pee in pools  in the dining room for dinner on a Celebrity ship as we did last week on the Oasis. We asked the head waiter about this and her answer was oh I didn't see anyone with a baseball cap on.She only stood by his table talking and laughing for several minutes and the cap stayed.

I personally won't go on Celebrity again. We went on 2the RCI in 2010to the Seranade &to Freedom then this year we decided to try X & went on the Solstice. The ship was very nice! The rooms balcony were nicer but the food & service on RCI were much better! I also didn't like our cruise director on X at all! Very boring! We always enjoyed our cruise director s on RCI. Anyway just my opinion but it would be hard to choose 11 days over 14& for almost the same price.
