NY-dump bags at NCL and then tour Intrepid?

We're on the Norwegian Gem, Oct 10-21, New York Eastern Canada & Quebec. Would like to do the tour or just walk around the Intrepid, just a few piers away from NCL. Can we check in and drop our bags, and then get off the ship to tour the Intrepid? It seems silly to go to the pier twice, on different days. Our departure time is 4PM. There's so much so see in NY, and so little time!

NCL requires that you are checked in and on-board ship 2 hours before departure time otherwise you will be waving goodbye to the ship from the dock. Therefore you must be on Board no later than 2:00PM. Yes you can check in and drop of the bags and than get off but you have to be back on board no later than 2:00PM.

For your comfort and convenience, we recommend that guests who have not completed their Online Check-In arrive at the cruise terminal no later than two (2) hours prior to the scheduled embarkation time printed on your cruise documents. Guests who have completed their Online Check-In should arrive at the terminal no later than one (1) hour prior to the scheduled embarkation time printed on your cruise documents. We STRONGLY recommend guests complete their Online Check-In at least four (4) days prior to sailing.

 

So, if your checked in, you need to be aboard one hour before cruise time, 3pm. If you check in around 11 or so, you should be ok. Keep an eye on the time, and how far away you are getting from the ship. Don't be late, they will leave you!! Enjoy your cruise.:D

If you can get to the port really early enough (like 10:30) you can dump your bags with the porters, and walk over next door to tour the Intrepid.

 

When you are done you can walk back to port to check in and board the ship.

 

Somebody said it's next door if not two piers.

If your funds allow the extra expense, a possible thought it fly in to New York the day before.

Yes, if you drop your bags off you can walk right over to the Intrepid. It's that close to the ship pier.

OP - Your sailing date is also the date of the MS bike ride which will be tying up traffic everywhere...Make sure you plan accordingly and do research!

 

The start and finish line is right in front of the pier!

I went to look to seer wheat that timing of the race is and I just read that the bike ride is on the 21st. I'm on the same cruise and we return on the 20th so it shouldn't be an issue.

Skip storing your bags unless your hotel is real close. Take them early and drop off as normal. Then head down to the Intrepid.

 

That should be enjoyable. And, as much as we like to be onboard and get the "cruise" started, spending a few hours at the Intrepid would be well worth it.

Garycarla is absolutly correct. Just leave your bags with the porters and then head over to the Intrepid. When you go you can see the Space Shuttle plus the British Airways SST and a sub. Have a great time.

Get to the pier early & drop off your bags. When I was on the Jewel in Feb on the starboard side deck we looked down at the Intrepid. It is right next to where the Gem will be. Then check in when you return to the ship.

There is no requirement to check in once you drop off your bags

Why dont you get to the pier rather early, drop off your bags, spend and hour or two at the intrepid and then check in.

Norwega- if you do visit the Intrepid the morning of your departure, please come back here and post about it. Each time we cruise from NYC, I wonder about doing this- if you have success (and recommend it), I might try this in January. Thanks! Lynn

At times you can see the dock next door used by NCL .

 

Close enough the Star hit the Intrepid Pier on the first day it arrived in NY. Now that is close!!
