Alaska...bear watching tour

Recommended Posts

Has anyone done the pre-cruise bear watching tour? We are booked on it prior to our August 15th sailing southbound. You go on a float plane to a lake to see bears feeding and spend the night at Alyeska resort. I Google the resort and it's supposed to be beautiful. I'm curious is anyone has done the tour or visit the resort and any input. Thank you.

Have stayed at Alyeska 3 times over the past 15 years or so. The first time was terrible--room was not clean, staff surly. Restaurants were way overpriced.

I vowed to never go back but then had to attend a conference held there two different times. It had changed management and was MUCH better. Food still not great and too expensive, but there are good choices nearby.

Have never done a bear watching tour, but I have seen bears. There is a little footpath that goes from the resort to "downtown", and sometimes bears hang out nearby.
