kr9457 Posted July 9, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 9, 2012 where would be the best place to dine on formal night besides the MDR? Taking the Millenium south in Alaska and husband doesn't want to pack a sport coat. The first formal night we have reservations at the speciality restaurant, whats a good choice the second formal night?
Rare cruisestitch Posted July 9, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 9, 2012 Room service can be a special meal if you have a verandah stateroom. You can have the regular nightly MDR menu served in addition to the room service menu.
kr9457 Posted July 9, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted July 9, 2012 Yes, we do have a conceirge room with the balcony. Will they deliver a glass of wine and a beer with dinner or would we have to go to the bar to get those?
Rare cruisestitch Posted July 9, 2012 #4 Share Posted July 9, 2012 They can deliver beer and wine but it might be just as efficient to go get your own. If you have a beverage package, room service beverages are not included I your package, by the way.
Orator Posted July 9, 2012 #5 Share Posted July 9, 2012 You could also go to a speciality restuarant or the buffet as they are smart casual every evening. Might try Bistro on 5, it's one of the best bargains on the ship.
swedish weave Posted July 9, 2012 #6 Share Posted July 9, 2012 I would suggest asking the Maitre D if you would be rejected from the MDR dressed as you feel comfortable. It is possible you may be accepted.

Are you suggesting that he ask the Maitre 'd if it's okay to break the established rules? IMHO not the best suggestion. Since I longer wish to participate in dress code threads, I'm outta here. Rare cruisestitch Posted July 9, 2012 #8 Share Posted July 9, 2012 Swedish weave, that isn't really the answer to the question, is it? The OP is looking for non MDR alternatives. Your suggestion can only lead to trouble on this board :):):)
S.O.C.I.O.C.A.T.s Posted July 9, 2012 #9 Share Posted July 9, 2012 WE do not attend the MDR during formal nights as we do not partake in the formal dressing ritual, this being a vacation for us. However, we have found Bistro on 5, Qsine, and the major specialty restaurants to be a prime choice during formal nights as they are always smart casual. Then there is the Lido. You do not have to stay tucked away in your room like an unwanted child simply because you do not want to dress up. And no, it is not required you be dressed formally to be in public areas. Feel free to go to the casino, the theatre, or other bars. 40 years with a suit and tie was enough
Rare cruisestitch Posted July 9, 2012 #10 Share Posted July 9, 2012 Dining on your own verandah can be a far cry from feeling like a tucked-away unwanted child! Bring a few battery-powered candles (never real ones, of course) and enjoy a private meal in the moonlight as the sea passes by .... It can be magic. But YMMV. We would never go to the MDR not dressed as suggested in the dress code.

KaththeTaff Posted July 9, 2012 #14 Share Posted July 9, 2012 The buffet is open, and DH enjoyed two very good minute steaks on the formal night when we couldn't be bothered to get dressed up! I had a lovely curry!
Rare West Windsor girl Posted July 9, 2012 #15 Share Posted July 9, 2012 Just got back from the Baltic on the Eclipse. My whole family opted for the casual buffet on the last formal night. Not only were we not interested in dressing up, we were all ready for a smaller, more casual meal after eating so much for 12 days. Enjoy.

ORDMan Posted July 9, 2012 #17 Share Posted July 9, 2012 Room service can be a special meal if you have a verandah stateroom. You can have the regular nightly MDR menu served in addition to the room service menu. We thought the same, but on our Med cruise on the Silhouette in May this was not the case. The room service would only serve what was on the room service menu, and absolutely would not serve the MDR menu. We tried on two different days. C 2 C Posted July 9, 2012 #20 Share Posted July 9, 2012 We have found the buffet area a very good alternative to the MDR on many different nights and we also enjoy Bistro on 5. But if the weather is pleasant, a balcony meal can be great.

From another thread: I believe those who are seeking information are not being given correct information. Attempts to post correct information are thwarted consistently.. This is detrimental to Celebrity, because some develop a negative opinion of the cruise line when faced with the obstacles to obtaining information. I have crossed Celebrity off my list of potential future cruises. Since you have stated that you have no interest in cruising with Celebrity why do you continue to post advice contrary to Celebrity policy? C 2 C Posted July 9, 2012 #23 Share Posted July 9, 2012 Perhaps they had problems with Celebrity because they didn't understand, or want to understand the policies. Who knows? I quoted something profound as well: John Adams: Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passion, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.
