Don't know as we took a bus both places. Very easy, not like in the US. As I recall there are express busses going right where you need to go. Particularly in Barcelona where the bus picks you up right down town and you take about a 20 minute ride to the airport.

IIRC Venice was about 40 Euro, Barcelona about 25. Plus tip, of course. (Venice was 2010, Barcelona 2006.)

I don't know how current this info is:

http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com/en/faq/airport/transport/taxi-fare-barcelona-international-airport-and-cruise-docks.html

http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187870-i57-k1415019-Transport_from_Marco_Polo_Airport_Venice_to_Cruise_Terminal-Venice_Veneto.html

This says "50 Euro or less"

http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/venice-cruise-port-transportation-ground.htm

Even at 50, for two people it's half the price of a HAL transfer at $79 pp each way.

Cheapest way in Venice is the ATVO coach for 5 Euro pp (used to be 3, so anything that says that is old) to Piazzale Roma, then 1 E pp via People Mover to mid-point, then a walk. And you put your own bags on/off the bus.

Just back from Venice.

My answer actually depends on your flight time.

Now that I know the system, I would probably do the bus if I had time.

We used http://www.EuropeanTransfers.com (found it via cruise critic). Got off the ship at 8:50... our flight was 11:35 and we didn't have an extra minute to spare.

The trip was $45 for a family of four.

If I had an afternoon flight, I would take the bus. Even if you don't know the transportation system, you would have plenty of time to walk around, figure it out and get on the bus. If you avoid the morning airport rush, the check-in lines will be shorter. Otherwise, what's your hurry? You're just going to sit in the airport. You can't check in until three hours before your flight. Obviously, if you have a lot of luggage, the public transportation may not be right for you.

Ive checked on a lot of websites & there seems to be quite a walk to the actual ship even after you get off the people mover taking you from Piazzale Romana. My original thought was to take a water taxi from the airport & get to the ship the scenic way...but then the thought of us trying to get 2 suitcases & hand luggage into a water taxi made me rethink. So now we've booked a transfer by local car, straight to the ship, arranged by our Agent, Denise( great help!) it's about the same price as a taxi, seems worth it to us:D

That depends on which pier you're at and what you consider "quite a walk". We boarded at pier 20, about 1,000 meters (3 Vista ship lengths) from the People Mover mid-point station, and disembarked at pier 107, about 300 meters away. (The P.M. station is the green square just west of the split in the track between P'le Roma and Tronchetto.) HAL also sometimes uses pier 117, which is about 600 meters away. In any case, it's a lot less walking than you'll likely be doing in Venice the next day (but without bags).

The water taxi will let you off at a point twice as far from pier 117 as the people mover. Believe me, we did it in May. They would take your bags to be checked at the taxi point, but you still have to lug your carry-ons a looong way. If you look at the map provided, the taxi drops you at the 'corner' above pier 18. You have to get yourself all the way to the foot of the terminal at pier 117. It was a hot, frustrating walk on April 30, I can't imaging doing it in July. We had to sit and rest inside the terminal before checking in. EM
