RetiredNTraveling Posted July 17, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2012 Several of us have been checking the Star Princess Bridge Cam and the ship hasn't reached KETCHIKAN, ALASKA yet. It was supposed to ARRIVE at 6:30AM and DEPART at 4:00PM. We are just wondering what caused the delay!!!
geocruiser Posted July 17, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2012 could it be late because of this? http://www.globalnews.ca/two+sailors+rescued+off+coast+of+haida+gwaii+islands/6442680703/story.html
RetiredNTraveling Posted July 17, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted July 17, 2012 The Star Princess in enroute to Alaska on the Inside Passage. That could be the answer!
Ship Dude Posted July 17, 2012 #4 Share Posted July 17, 2012 Incredible. What a story. We were on the old Crown Princess between Cuba and Florida when the ship sounded its horns and stopped. There was a raft of Cuban refugees floating near by and the ship picked them up. Once they were safetly onbaoard the ship continued.
RickEk Posted July 18, 2012 #5 Share Posted July 18, 2012 Yes, from what I understand, the Star Princess was many hours late because she aided in the rescue of two sailors from a stricken sailboat.
c-legs Posted July 18, 2012 #6 Share Posted July 18, 2012 well over 7 hours late in Ketchikan....but left much less late than that....perhaps hoping to make it up finally by Juneau ? I suspect most if not all the excursions in Ketchikan have been cancelled....and I further suggest that the early morning call into TracyArm tomorrow morning will also be '' shortened'' , should this be needed to ensure a 13;30hr docking in Juneau. As Princess will no doubt incur noticeable costs in compensation and lost revenues for all the cancelled excursions and their related fees, is it itself able to benefit of a compensation process from either the Cdn Coast Guard of the USCG ? Just curious. Of course, ''helping each other out at high seas'' is a mandatory protocol-driven cost of doing business.... Cheers

skynight Posted July 18, 2012 #9 Share Posted July 18, 2012 Well it is good news for the Star after the incident off the coast of Ecuador this past March. Is Capt. Perrin the current Capt. He was the Capt in March.

TM Posted July 19, 2012 #11 Share Posted July 19, 2012 My husband would be a whole lot richer if the Star had been 7 hours late into Ketchikan last week. He bought me a really nice Birthday/Anniversary present while in port!:) However, I would have been very disappointed as I love the port of Ketchikan, such a charming port.
