roothy123 Posted July 21, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 21, 2012 I was wondering if anyone knows of a place lower in the ship than the pool deck where I can go to take pictures of things on the shore. On Regatta, it was easier; on Marina much harder, if even possible. I don't plan to use the spa so that won't work - if it's even lower than the pool deck (I forget!) I miss that area on Regatta and Insignia (and I guess Nautica, too) where you could go outside by the casino! I'm guessing yours is more organized and your plans more realistic, but mine is more comprehensive! At least I'm humming along on taming my mess of notes! I just need to stick with it, stay off Cruise Critic and a dog health site I monitor, and finish the job! As to the lack of lower outside spaces if you're in an inside cabin (or if you're in a veranda cabin and what you want to see is on the other side!), I'll live! We've been in inside cabins more often than veranda cabins, and I've gotten used to turning the TV to channel 3 (or whatever it is that shows the web cam view from the front of the ship) and/or running upstairs to the track area to take a peek! The only reason I was asking the Oceania gurus was because in Feb. on Marina before we left Santo Tomas, Guatemala, on the pier there was a steel drum band, dancers, and the person who had led the "Happy Fish" excursion I had taken that day. I so wanted to shout out to him (he was great) and wanted to take a picture from somewhere other than way up top, since everyone appeared so tiny! We were in a veranda cabin for that cruise, but on the wrong side for that particular port. Oh well, Marina is great, and the lack of lower, outside areas is a small price to pay for those extra restaurants, etc. I have a "guarantee" on a cabin category, and I just know that Oceania will end up being oversold on those rare inside cabins, get a cancellation on a spiffy port to starboard suites, and move me there so I can see more of the world "my way" (yeah, right!!) OK, one last tip for you. Even though I've been on Oceania ships quite a bit I still get on the ship and bumble around for a day or two. Or three. There is a wall phone near each elevator. Noting whether the phone is on the same side as your cabin helps get you oriented as you come off the elevator or stairs. I also look at the art work behind the stairs so I know if I'm toward the front or back of the ship. Have fun! Now I'm going to really try to stay off Cruise Critic...... spook1 Posted July 22, 2012 #8 Share Posted July 22, 2012 From what has been said Marina has no promenade deck. This is a shame as it is the ideal place to snoze and photograph the horizon. Walking early morning laps and an after dinner stroll on a teak promenade deck with a moon path on the sea has always been a voyage highlight and more desirable than the topside jogging track. For years I have written OBSERVATIONS FROM PROMENADE DECK after completing a cruise and it appears I might need to asterik Marina in April. Meet a kind soul on the fantail and snap away.
