Just for giggles - Solo deposit & supplement..

Recommended Posts

I think you should get double cruise points. cause essently you are paying both fairs under the same name. just tell them you cruiser #1 and #2

Agreed!! I've thought about this since the new "loyalty" crap came out. If solos are paying essentially the same fare for two (minus a small amount for port fees), why shouldn't we get the point value for two? Seems like a fair trade.... then again, when is Giant Corp., Inc ever fair to anyone?

Surprise.. you ARE paying 2 port fees. I guess you didnt know port fees are embedded in your cruisefare. The add on fees and taxes dont include port fees.

Someone posted elsewhere who is platinum, they want two loyalty gifts too now since they are paying double.

I've realized carnival doesn't want us anymore....rather have a cabin full of a family of 16. However, even at 200 percent sometimes it's cheaper then other lines. But noticing it less these days and get a more upscale cruise line..

Okay, I will state up front that I am totally being facetious but....

Since Carnival charges me 200% for a cabin, and now wants a 200% deposit, shouldn't I be able to bring 200% of the allowed amount of wine on board? :p

Something I might have to try.......I agree, plus 2 bottles of wine over 7 nights is nothing!

Well, we have to be totally honest here. A solo cruiser just isn't worth that much.

If I owned a cruise company, called Larkz Cruise Lines, I'd do whatever I could to gently but firmly discourage both solos and frugal cruisers (like myself). Nothing overly offensive, mind you, just enough nudging to send them (us) looking at other cruise lines.

I'm not really sure why you think a solo cruiser is not worth that much. We pay for 2 fares. And many of us have on board bills that are equal to or greater than many double booked rooms. I myself never get off without spending at least $600-$800 bucks on a 7 day and that is with no picture purchases, and no chip excursions.

I see on here all the time about a double booked room boasting the fact their sign n sail is less than $100.

Generally solo cruisers are much less maintenance, less demanding as we know exactly what to expect when cruising and go with the flow.

hmmm I wonder if you claim to have multiple personalities and just say thats just your 'other half' that tends to use up more bathroom counter space? LOL then sleep in the other bed every other night.

I just booked a solo cruise last night and with all my FCC vouchers, upgrades, OBC and FUNPOINTS I practically got the price back down to the cost of one passenger anyway. :D It would be nice to receive double points, but im not holding my breath on that one.

I agree and a lot of that has to do with the fact that the vacation costs us more with 2 or more ppl due to fact flying is doubled or more, eating out day before the cruise and after bouble or more and excursions cost more. So we have more of a budget. Plus typcially our bills at home are more maybe not for just a couple but for a family it is, so we have less of a budget. I can say one cruise mine was less than $200, and that was a excusion included, due to the fact I was on a buget and it was just me and my oldest DD she was 17 at the time so couldn't drink which cut down on my drinking. ;). Now when 7 of us whent it was close to $1100 and when just me and DH went it was $600.

I think it would be a nice "perk" for solos if they did this, but they won't.

The issue is that the program is based on days sailed, not on how much money you've spent.

Saying you're paying double is all well and good, but what about those in balconies or suites who may be paying three or four time what you're paying - should they get extra as well?

Unless Carnival goes to a system based on how much your fare costs (which would be interesting actually), it ain't gonna happen.

Put two bottles of wine in your carry on. When they ask, just say your partner is "still parking the car" and you're carrying both bottles in the carry on bag for the both of you.

Since most people assume you're part of a couple, you'll probably get away with the 2 bottles of wine.

I cruised solo for the first time in January due to cancellation at the last minute by parents (dad had emergency surgery and mom stayed with him). No insurance so we lost one fare and the other was applied to my single supplement.

I loved it and plan to do it alone deliberately next time (saving my money). I sat by myself at dinner but was always seated with interesting dinner companions. I had my own schedule, plenty of room to move around the cabin, and even ordered room service at night!

Love your way of thinking!!!! Might have to try that!

I agree, I have never cruised with anyone so I always pay the 200% (gone are the 125 or 150% deals  ).....

Precisely my thinking. Carnival has always been my cruise line, but when they changed their "blow-the-competition-away" SOLO rate to 200% they're now in a more competitive game. My last two have been with a friend, but anytime in the future when cruising SOLO, I'll be looking at ALL THE LINES, whereas I never even bothered to look before.

I think this is exactly the strategy they're using to clobber the PLATINUM and DIAMOND cruisers, also. They make more money on the NEWBIE's first 6-8 cruises. After 6-8 cruises they get smarter and more frugal, dump the pics (digital era), stay away from the "unregulated" casino, buy the excursions privately online, smuggle booze, and just in general LIMIT onboard spending:rolleyes:
