CruiserBruce Posted August 14, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2012 The Panama Canal is driven by water, all of which is "naturally occuring". Put another way, the Canal is located in a tropical rain forest/jungle. The main definition of a tropical rain forest is rain. If it didn't rain lots, the Canal wouldn't work. That being said, we have been thru the Canal 3 times. Each passage takes 8-10 hours. We have had rain for less than 2 of those 28 or so hours. The other 26 hours it has been pretty warm to hot and pretty humid. You will still be able to enjoy the Canal if it is raining.
BillB48 Posted August 14, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 14, 2012 Since the Rainy Season runs from the beginning of until late December you could get some rain. Most of the time it is an intermittent rain and not something that would cancel all outdoor activity. Take a small sun stopper (umbrella;)) or a fold up poncho and enjoy the the liquid sunshine! You'll have a good time.

Just too early in the morn to type or proofread!!
AKman2495 Posted August 14, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2012 I am sailing through the canal at the end of next month. I fully expect it to rain and I am looking forward to it. I have read about tropical downpours and have seen enough "jungle" movies to get an idea of what one is like, but I will enjoy sitting under cover and watch the rain pout down. Rare Keith1010 Posted August 15, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 15, 2012 You just never know what the weather will be like. NO matter the weather it is an extraordinary experience to transit the canal so enjoy every minute of it. Keith
Northern Aurora Posted August 15, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 15, 2012 We have done three full transits of the canal. While you can never predict the weather, on all three the weather as we actually transited the canal was wonderful. And quite frankly, the canal itself is so interesting that it would be fun even if it was raining.
Jeanniec Posted September 17, 2012 Author #8 Share Posted September 17, 2012 Thanks to all that made me feel good about the panama cruise in Oct. I hear the weather is better the end of Oct. but I guess we can just pray. I am sure we will have so much fun. We are in our 70's so I guess we are just looking for something different that we have not seen. Really getting excited Jeanniec:D
Northern Aurora Posted September 17, 2012 #9 Share Posted September 17, 2012 Jeanniac: Even if it rains I suspect you will have a great time! A Panama Canal cruise is so interesting most people would have to really work at NOT having fun. Celebrity generally has wonderful destination speakers. Hope you have either Milos Radovich (sp?) or Marty Harrington. Both are great. Also look for Joe Palka, who is a professor of Latin American studies from the University of Illinois and is an expert in Maya culture.
