Port vs starboard??

You never know--the ships don't pull in the same way every time; depends on other shipping traffic. It's the luck of the draw in every port. If leaving from Barcelona we prefer port side so we can maybe glimpse some coastline on our way across France and down Italy, but as far as docking is concerned, there is no way to predict.

It truly doesn't matter. The cruise docks in many of the ports are actually in industrial areas and there won't be much to see unless you are into industrial cranes and offloading procedures. Actually it is fascinating to watch containers float in the air.

Honestly, there is no way to predict where you will dock. It varies from sailing to sailing.

Enjoy the ship and the itinerary...there will be plenty to see onshore.

Thanks all, I have never been on Med cruise and am picky with the Caribbean ones - I am sure there will be no comparison. Already getting excited!!

Glad that our Midwest neighbor is getting excited. Yes, as noted by others, things will vary much. Many of the ports are only average or so-so in the views as you are docked. Tell us more on your specific ports you will be visiting. Some areas, such as Venice and Kotor, have great sail-ins where it is best to be up on the top decks to see and experience more of the beauty and unique sights to be seen during that pre-docking period.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Did a June 7-19, 2011, Solstice cruise from Barcelona that had stops in Villefranche, ports near Pisa and Rome, Naples, Kotor, Venice and Dubrovnik. Enjoyed great weather and a wonderful trip. Dozens of wonderful visuals with key highlights, tips, comments, etc., on these postings. We are now at 99,005 views for this live/blog re-cap on our first sailing with Celebrity and much on wonderful Barcelona. Check these postings and added info at:
