Seattle hotel help

I called the Mayflower. They're sold out the night we want. Did a 3 1/2 star, used suggestions made for other areas, did not get anything. Guess I'll stick with the Sheraton Four Pts, where I have a reservation.

I wish the Inn at the Market was available, that's worth a splurge

thanks for all your help

I am also staying at the Maxwell on my upcoming trip. I read good things about them on tripadvisor.

I think that's a great area. If I needed a hotel in Seattle I'd much rather stay in that area than downtown. So many good restaurants & the monorail isn't too far away to take you downtown.

Another downtown Seattle hotel which I like is Inn at Harbour Steps. We've stayed there several times before we found the Mayflower Park. It might be a consideration.

I thought the Inn at Harbor Steps became Inn at the Market

The Inn at Harbour Steps was part of the Four Sisters group of specialty inns and boutique small hotels. I am not aware that the Inn at the Market has ever been affiliated with the Four Sisters.

The Inn at Harbour Steps was catty-corner to the Seattle Art Museum and a block south (or "southish") of one of the main buildings at Pike Place Market. The Inn at the Market is in one of the market buildings.

And a question for Gardyloo -- any ideas why Inn at Harbour Steps closed? We hadn't stayed there since we found the Mayflower Park in early 2011, but not only had my husband and I stayed there a number of times, he also stayed there on business trips. We actually prefer Mayflower Park, but would have stayed there again in a heartbeat if the Mayflower had been unavailable.

Hi, I'm staying at the Holiday Inn in Renton, has anyone stayed there? TA booked, I have no idea. Thanks for help.

I have been there for a conference many years ago. Did you want to stay outside of Seattle? It isn't far from SeaTac & their site says the shuttle can get you to light rail / tukwila train station. Still, I wouldn't advise a friend to stay in the SeaTac area, let alone Renton. Too far away from things unless you have no plans for sight seeing in Seattle imho.

"Various reasons" - http://www.foursisters.com/harborsteps.htm

I'd be surprised if an unmentioned "various reason" wasn't the opening of the Four Seasons, basically looming over the former Inn. The Four Seasons is now the (pretty much) undisputed best hotel in Seattle.

The Inn at the Market was developed (by a friend of mine) back in the 1980s as part of one of the final stages in the renovation of the Pike Place Market that began in the 1970s. As far as I know it hasn't had any official links to other hotels.

Suggestions for overnight stop along the way would be appreciated.

Also we are dropping the car at the hilton on 6th AVE in Seattle--- how far is the Cele pier from 6th ave.

Thank you in advance for your help.

We did Portland pre cruise and drove up to Seattle. Having only one night is not enough time. Portland is amazing. Instead of spending 3 nights, we spent 4. So much to do in and around portland. As long as you arrive in the am, maybe you should stay close to Portland and their is a wonderful drive that takes you in a nice loop. It's an all day drive to do the loop, but you will see wonderful waterfalls, can stop at wineries, and so on. Then drive directly to Seattle. You really need more than an overnight. I don't suggest Mt St Helen, because that's too far out of the way

It's not a long drive--about 170 miles--but if you want to spend a night on the way, here are a few ideas if you're taking I-5:

Timberland Inn and Suites--If you're thinking about a side trip to Mount St. Helens (and I highly recommend it--that would be my #1 reason for making this a two-day drive), this would be a good place to stay. It's about 60 miles north of Portland, right where Hwy 504 leaves I-5 and heads east, toward the mountain.

McMenamins Olympic Club--Funky and old and not at all posh, but tons of history and atmosphere! Just about halfway between Portland and Seattle.

Great Wolf Lodge--Loaded with kitschy theme-related nonsense, but if you have young kids with you, they will probably love this place. Also roughly halfway to Seattle.

Eagles Landing Hotel--Part of the Chehalis tribal casino and resort complex. If you're more interested in grownup entertainment, this could be fun. Also roughly halfway to Seattle.

Kalama River Inn--Only about 40 miles north of Portland, and a it's pretty basic highway motel, but they are able to boast that "ELVIS SLEPT HERE!!"

It looks like you'll be sailing from Pier 91, and that's about 5 miles from the Hilton downtown.

Just curious--is your recommendation based on actually having gone there, all the way out to the Johnston Ridge Observatory, and seen the mountain from there?

Yes, we drove there. It was well worth the trip, but for having one day only to see things, I feel it's difficult. Mt St Helen erupted on my wedding day, so we felt pulled there. It is quite far from the main road, although a beautiful drive.

We had a full week to drive around pre-cruise, which was a delight.

I felt Oregon was one of the most beautiful places. The mountains, the ocean, everything is great

I'd stay in Portland - it's an awesome town. Just leave reasonably early next day - 9am would still give you a 3 hour buffer before you really need to be at the pier (and you'll miss the worst of the morning rush hour).

I believe Celebrity use pier 66 - that's a mile from the Hilton, all downhill if you want to walk it.

In the past Celebrity did indeed use Pier 66 (Bell Street), but this year the Solstice is leaving from Pier 91 (Smith Cove). This year the only Celebrity ships docking at Pier 66 are on port calls.

WOW that was fabulous. thank you all--- i will let you know our route. side trips may not work to well--- i get kind of nervous cruise day-- always fear missing ship movement.

do any of you know what it would take to jump ship in SAN next to last day of cruise rather then going down to MX.

This dosen't make sense to me-- i know about the jones law but still this is crazy-- leave SAN go 70 miles south to MX then bus back to SAN and have to go through customs at the MX border??? i just don't like the idea of west coast MX...............

To jump ship, you should try to arrange it ahead of time thru' your TA or the cruiseline, if you booked direct. It's doable. People do it all the time, but you need to go thru' the channels

It's definitely a healthy distance out to Johnston Ridge Observatory, but for someone making the Portland-Seattle trek over two days, I don't think it would be excessive (it wasn't when we did it on that schedule, anyhow). And I guess it's a matter of tastes and priorities, but I would put Mount St. Helens way up high on my list of things to recommend to anyone who's in the area and has the time. I thought it was absolutely fascinating. It's such a unique sight--an incredible demonstration of the power of nature, and not something you can see a lot of other places. One thing I hadn't really anticipated was seeing so clearly where the top of the mountain WENT--all that mud and sediment choking the Toutle River for miles downstream. That and all the blown-down trees really give you an idea of force and the magnitude of the explosion The visitor centers do a good job of explaining and re-creating the mountain before the blast, and what happened when it blew. I definitely recommend it!
