Disrobing in public in Solarium? Should I have not been shocked?

Recommended Posts

Frankly if I go to a nude beach I will expect to be subjected to someone elses "junk".

If I am on a cruise ship and there are no provisions for public nudity I will expect pax to follow the rules and keep their junk out of my sight.

The woman was ignorant or just plain arrogant.

Do you think everyone would have reacted differently if a European man dropped his shorts and changed into a swimsuit?

Happened on our July 22 FOS cruise. He changed from his speedos into his walking shorts while in the solarium.

More likely just European and participating in a quite normal behavior for European bathers. After all the Vision is sailing in the Med.;)

Its funny how some Americans get in such a tizzy over someone sunbathing or sunbathing nude or topless. And yet we spend over a billion dollars a year on porn.

And if tomorrow some nude photos or a sex tape of whoever the hot young star is now leak onto the internet, i'd like to have a dime for every hit the site gets.

Umm there are places for that. I don't believe it is acceptable anywhere (except in certain communities or Africa) to walk into say, a grocery store or restaurant without shoes and shirt.. let alone pants! Some people are just clueless... They just don't THINK! Example... was in a ladies restroom recently when a man came in with his 6-7 yr old daughter. I thought, "Oh well I guess he just didn't think about the fact that he, a grown man was in the ladies restroom, and just thought about taking care of his little girl". Well then when the girl didn't have to "go", I could hear the belt being unbuckled and the loud waterfall begin!!( I have 2 sons:o) That was way inappropriate!! I guess he probably thought, that while he was there....."

And by the way... my part of "we" does not have any part of porn and those that have a problem with immodesty most likely don't either. Just sayin'

In the apartment complex I lived in years ago, there was an elderly couple would did this every day. My at the time, 5 year old son, once asked why that mans "parts" were purple? I wanted to climb under the chair and hide every time I saw them!:eek::eek::eek:

You realize of course, that a signficant percentage of European public restrooms are unisex. Again, not at all uncommon to have a patron of the opposite sex in the next stall;)

This was not in Europe nor was it a European ship.I don't want to see naked bodies in public no matter what they do in Europe.I don't consider myself a prude,I am a retired nurse and have seen my share of naked bodies, that's different.Lets leave something to the imagination, keep your assets and your disabilities to yourself.

While I understand it is acceptable in other cultures ,even expected...On a family cruise I would not want to see it. I realize she probably thought it was an "ADULT" area not an "adult area" ;). We have been places where we have seen it and it is no big deal but I prefer not to go places where the nudity is. Suffy American ?? Maybe but it is how I was raised . I wonder if she would have found out it was inappropriate on the ship if she would have been at all embarrased just by the fact that she was not intending to do any thing to offend anyone but rather did what she was use to.

Oh and by the way I don't buy rent or partake in porn ...so none of the industry gets this persons money :D.

The only naked body I am interested in seeing other than my own (which I'm not really interested in seeing:o ) is my husbands ...but NOT in public or he'd be in the dog house :D

Like.

I also like how the "european culture" crowd come out in droves when nudity is addressed. Being "acceptable" in other cultures doesn't make it acceptable everywhere. Nor does it make anyone superior to think so. As another poster said, the cruiselines do have rules about it.

BTW, I've been to Europe and even on beaches in the med we only saw a handful of topless women and no complete nudity at all.

Not to mention, while women may not think sex when they see someone nude, almost all men do as they are visual. It's how they're wired.

Perhaps this should not have surprised me, but DH and I were quite shocked when we were in the Solarium pool on Vision in August and saw a woman changing out of her bathing suit in full view of everyone, right by the chairs in front of the Solarium bar. She was well over 50 and certainly did not have the kind of body that one would be trying to show off. (In other words, old, droopy, out of shape, heavy....like my own!!!) She took her sweet time drying off her bare breasts, putting on her bra and tshirt, removing her swimsuit bottom, drying her posterior, donning her panties, and trousers afterwards. I was staring at her with my mouth open like
. Finally I remarked in a fairly loud voice, "There are staterooms!" although there was quite a good chance that this woman did not speak English.

Maybe I am being a stuffy American, expecting modesty as I am used to it, but is what she did acceptable behavior in the Solarium? Is there any policy on Royal Caribbean that allows people to display their "assets" there?

I promise I won't do it ever again. ;)

Once, when we were on Coco Cay, I noticed a young "man" standing in line in front of us at the buffet. I mentioned to my husband that he was wearing a strange kind of swim suit since it looked like the bottom of a woman's bikini. When he turned around, he turned out to be a she and she was wearing pasties over her nipples. :-O. She seemed to be quite annoyed with all the lookie lous jockeying for a better look.

All I can say is, if you are going to be visiting a different culture, it's best to find out what is and isn't acceptable.

I am a happy American - not stuffy at all. I went topeless in Cypress and the French side of St. Maarten back in the day a very long time ago where it was totally acceptable and I looked pretty good, but it was very comfortable than anything else, but on a cruise ship, come on, let's get real. Keep your suit on till you get to your cabin. It's not that long of a walk.

Boarding a ship on Thursday - can't wait.

I just love it when the rule police come out:D

It's pretty plain that some have not seen a RCI cd dressed as borat. In this case google Kevin spacey dressed as borat on YouTube.

Don't forget to wear your rci robe now:D:D

The next time someone starts a thread complaining about people wearing their robes out of their cabins maybe we should just direct them to this thread and ask which they prefer..... robe or no robe.
