DavyB Posted September 4, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 4, 2012 Hey Newcruiser - I haven't been on the Explorer but I do know that the Friends of Dorothy meet ups can be hit or miss. I've had more luck checking out the roll calls on cruise critics gay and lesbian page. Good Luck and have a great cruise. David
Tim,n,Sue Posted September 4, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 4, 2012 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1461004 This is the link to your roll call. It appears to be a very active roll call. As well there will be a notice board near Guest Services where you can post a notice for the Friends of Dorothy who are on your cruise and who may not use CC. BTW. Congrats on your first post to Cruise Critic. (CC)

Princess now calls the meet-ups LGBT Rainbow gatherings.
Rare Familygoboston Posted September 4, 2012 #6 Share Posted September 4, 2012 Gay and Lesbian cruisers. It is a term that is becoming more antiquated every year. Princess now calls the meet-ups LGBT Rainbow gatherings. Is it related to Wizard of Oz? The rainbow thing? I never knew that! I agree that it used to be quite cryptic, like you had to know the secret password:rolleyes:, fortunately, in this day and age, I think we can all deal with just calling it a LGBT meet up! To the OP- hope you are open to meeting the straight, but not narrow, folks on your cruise too. After more than 35 years cruising I can tell you things are more integrated on cruise ships than ever before. The roll call is great place to do that! Have fun! newcruiser1271 Posted September 4, 2012 Author #7 Share Posted September 4, 2012 Familygoboston- Very happy to hear that cruise ships are integrated! First cruise with my girlfriend and want to make sure we feel comfortable :)
foxgoodrich Posted September 4, 2012 #8 Share Posted September 4, 2012 We cruised with a group called The Bears on our Feb 18 Mardi Gras cruise out of New Orleans this year. I LOVED those guys! They were so much fun, they really know how to celebrate Mardi Gras, and they had better 'elevator manners' than anyone else on the ship. DH and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and interacting with these gentlemen. I hope you feel comfortable, make lots of new friends, and have a wonderful cruise! Judi Garland/Dorothy/Wizard of Oz, yes. Hence, why it is becoming antiquated  It was Cruise Critic that helped me find out about the meet ups. I am 42 and this is really more a generation above me.

Daghis Posted September 4, 2012 #11 Share Posted September 4, 2012 You may also want to start a thread in the G&L Roll Calls forum. That's like the regular roll calls forum, but geared toward meeting up with other LGBT people.
Erik101 Posted September 4, 2012 #12 Share Posted September 4, 2012 Hey Newcruiser - I haven't been on the Explorer but I do know that the Friends of Dorothy meet ups can be hit or miss. I've had more luck checking out the roll calls on cruise critics gay and lesbian page. The last two FOD meets we attended were a complete bust. We had a better time meeting and chatting up with those at the bars and casino.
