Snorkeling at Half Moon Cay

Trying to decide what to do during out time at Half Moon Cay. Seems like the majority of info on here is about renting a cabana, they are sold out since we are sailing in a month.

 

Should we do the sting ray excursion, snorkel by boat excursion, or just snorkel on our own. We did the sting rays in Grand Cayman with a private company and enjoyed it. We also hope to do some just laying around doing nothing. This trip is all about relaxing since the kids will be at home with the grandparents.

 

Also, for anyone who has done Grand Turk and HMC, which one would be better for snorkeling? I'm thinking about doing a massage at Grand Turk and snorkeling at HMC but that could be changed.

if you guys have a roll call going you may want to ask if anyone wants to go halfsies on an already rented cabana. several folks on ours are sharing - half the cost / twice the fun!

Snorkeling is far better at Grand Turk than HMC. Not even comparable.

Snorkeling at Half Moon Cay is crappy.....no reefs or shipwrecks to snorkel around

There are reefs at HMC. There's even one inside the stingray pen. For a very reasonable price you get a little snorkeling and get to interact with the stingrays.

 

The beach side of the island isn't good for snorkeling. Smooth, sandy beaches do not lend themselves to good snorkeling.

 

Grand Turk is recognized as having excellent snorkeling/diving.

 

There's a separate board for snorkeling and diving. People who do a lot of this would be able to give you much more detailed info over there.
