Difference in D1, D2, E1 and E2 balcony cabins

OK, Have cruise five times now and I still don't understand the difference in these cabins.

I know the sq footage is just a little different on them and that location plays a big roll. But in looking at booking a last minute cruise on the Liberty, I pulled out my old RCI book and was looking over all the cabins.

What I don't understand is when the D1 and D2 are more expensive, what is the difference when they are intermixed on the ship. Example, on Liberty deck six, all the "hump cabins" are E2 cabins. Go forward just a little bit on the same deck and there are E1's mixed in between the E2's. Then if you go behind the hump the cabins are D2 and some D1's mixed in all right beside each other. If they are both the same size (as per my book) why are the cabins if categorized differently??

I know probably not a big deal, but I am thinking of trying a guarantee balcony and was just looking at all my possibilities. As everyone always suggest, I would be happy with any location and any balcony, so I am not worried where I would end up. Just more curious of the set up

OK thanks, didn't know that.

But then why would the E2's that are on the hump, a desired location, be considered a "cheaper" cabin then the D2's that are right behind the hump. You would think it would be the other way around??

The D2's are a bit larger and have a sofa instead of a loveseat

Thanks, I guess some things mean more to other people than to me. I wouldn't know that little of a space difference and the sofa wouldn't be worth the price difference.

Am I reading right though, the balcony size on the E cabins are actually larger? My book shows E cabins at 74 sq ft balcony and D at 68.

I don't think that the books are that accurate. The only time the balconies are bigger (D and E) are when they are in odd locations such as hump/aft areas. D's are longer than Es, they aren't wider.
